Just wondering, are we allowed to change the garage game splash screen, just like fancying it up a bit, or do we have to keep the one with the white background?

I don't think GG would sue you for playing with their logo a bit, but it's a good thing to ask :)

I don't think that the splash screen is required to remain unchanged according to the license. You are supposed to feature the GarageGames logo, but I don't know the exact terms without reading directly from the Torque EULA.

As long as you display some sort of Torque logo you are fine. No "official" logo has ever been released but it was stated that you could use any logo just run it by them first. This allows you to customize logos for each game for example.

Golden rule of holy shit batman. Never, never alter the logo of a company. At least the people I've worked with either provide a set of logos which you must use or have color charts, font specifications and so on which must be followed. I once made the misstake of using a slightly lighter shade of blue (I didn't even see the difference and I didn't get a color spec) and bolding a companies logo once. Scary stuff.

Anyways, a 800x600 px splash screen isn't a logo and I believe GG has stated that the GG splash screen or the GG logo isn't required but a Torque logo is when using the indie license. Then again, they might not care if you draw a bear and call it the torque logo but I'd bet you they do =) The background color probably isn't set in stone though since there are legitimate reasons to want it to be transparent.

I'm sure some GG employee will respond with what they expect. I just wanted to tell some odd story.

@Alex: an idea here might be to post an official GG branding page where people can download their choice of the logos you guys do bless. I know of two that have been used in the games. The regular circle on the white background and the other tan coloured one. Providing a user with a page where they can get either (various sizes including up to something like 1600x1200) would be nice and you can just direct them to it. Again, not required legally or anything but at least they have the official resource for such a thing.

edit: section 4b of the EULA does say that the logo is required to be displayed at startup so having a page with what you guys consider the officially accepted logos should be part and parcel of the system.

I think a logo page would be a excellent idea :)

We will provide logos. If this is holding up shipment of any game, please email me and we will take care of it right away.

While i'm still in the 'playing about with torque stage' and coming up with ideas.. Would GG mind if I made their logo 3d and put it in a little video at the start .. something like ..

The same logo as you get when the Torque demo starts up.. then the circle spins.. then the GG spins the opposite way .. for about a couple of seconds then they both come together and stop.. then on the to the next little video.. ?

Am only thinking of this as I need something to model and animate for the first time and want something easier then a person.. or harder then a box! heh.

What do you think??

There is already a 3d version of the logo =)

This make me think a 3d version of the current torque logo would be totally awesome.

There is one. Look in the demo folder under tutoriao.basedata/shapes/3dtorquelogo/

This looks like the right place to post this. I have a question for the employees about the logo requirements, because I like to be thorough when making decisions.

I was looking up the licensing terms on Wikipedia, and it seems pretty straightforward.
"The Torque Indie License also requires that the TGE (or Garage Games) logo is displayed for at least 4 seconds, before the game starts up in all released games [...] Recently Garage Games has changed the licensing terms for the commercial version of it's engine, which also requires a commercial licensee to show the logo, for 4 seconds at least, like the indie license requires."

My question is this; Is Garage Games flexible on these rules? If I decide to show my company's logo for 2 seconds, can I get away with showing Garage Games' logo for two seconds, *AND* showing the Torque logo for two seconds after that, as long as both logos are onscreen for a combined total of four seconds?

And second; Is it out of the question to add an option to allow the player, through mouseclick or keypress, to skip the intro-sequence with the logos, or are those required to show, in uninterruptible format?

I would recommend writing to licensing at garagegames.com about the specifics of the logo requirements and adjustments to them specific to your case.
