Been kinda tried before, but never got off the ground... XXX MMP

I can think of a few offhand that never happened. I'm currently entrenched in the late conceptual/early design phase of such a game.

Basically Sims Online with sex, or City of Heroes with ass licking not ass kicking (I love the sound of that haha) at it's most basic level. But no magic, no weapons, no items, no fighting. It's all about cultivating relationships with NPC characters and other players and getting laid. Even the sex isn't simple traditional sex, it's quite a bit more involved than that.

Cool enough...wasn't aware of that...I know a couple of females who have been open to me about such sexual fantasy roleplaying...but thats just it...to them its just sexual roleplaying with consenting partners...whatever.

As for modding, what is to stop them from produceing the same mods for Quake, Unreal, etc?.. Not much, but I see your point....a game like this would draw them like flies, while they just do see the potential for Quake, Unreal to mod such games...it's still not something you would want to have associated with your game all the same...

I think if you started off targeting the adult book stores, strip clubs, etc to sell the game...and then over time as the community grows and matures...it may find some level of mainstream acceptance...but trying to target that mainstream audiance first is going to be like shooting yourself in the foot, rather you should let them come to you instead

Quote:There's no arguing that sex sells. And with the typical gamer a young adult male, you can't really blame the industry for catering to their target audience. But developers sure seem to be on the wrong track here.

Message board chatter about such games has been generally dismissive and often mocking. Thanks to the Internet, anyone (of any age) who wants to see a naked woman doesn't have to look too far. As a result, they're not looking to their games for that. Instead, they're buying titles in hopes of discovering something that's easy to learn, but not too easy to win; something that tells a good story, but offers immersive, addictive gameplay.

It's the fun factor that sells, not the flesh factor.

Nick, the reason I said that was because you said:

My piece of social commentary on this thread:

If I told you I was going to make a game where you run around killing and maiming people there'd be little or no discussion about it.

Mention sex and ethics and morals dominate the debate.

That's why I said sex and violence are viewed differently.

Jeb,

I think the idea is cool at a basic 'online adult chat' level. However, without the magic and fighting, the game/fun factor appears to be removed. I would throw in magic, weapons, and items to compliment the gameplay. In fact, you can make SEX a major element of gameplay. As a player, your character can earn some useful points for engaging sexual acts. You can base quests on Sex: "locate the Scarlet Mage, seduce her to get information". You can add Bordellos to the list of town establishments to visit. You can add items that enhance sexual/magic/weapon abilities (ie: the Enchanted Staff of Endowment.) You can make nudity and level of sexual depiction optional and adjustable. I can see many possibilities.

Well, I have heard it said that nothing sucks like an electrolux......

Although it does seem like hypocrisy (spelling.... :-( assigning differing values to sex and violence, they also overlap, and I would be very cautious about mixing the two. Also, most violent computer games have you committing violence for good ends, but using violence for sex is never good (and I omit fighting another for someones favours, ie the damsel in distress).

Same sex mariage bad, bombing one bad guy killing 30 innocent bystanders good. Yup, its a crazy world.

How would the game rate the player? Stroke level? I can just see it now, two guys discussing the game, "Man I stroked the mouse like crazy untill I climaxed...." very disturbing :-) Call the RSPCA asap (or do you practice safe mousing).

Eeeeeewwww, I'm never going to touch a clients mouse ever again......
