GUI "skins"--tutorial anyone?

by Stephen Zepp · in General Discussion · 04/28/2004 (12:26 pm) · 5 replies

My team is just getting started used to using the internal tools, and one of the areas that we're looking at is the concept of GUI skinning.

I was wondering if anyone had a mini-tutorial on creating a themed set of windows, bitmaps, and other related requirements for this type of task--I searched the resources, but didn't find anything specific. We've pinned down the basic graphics that are used by the engine, but I was looking for something probably as simple as the MinAPP gui creation tutorials, just focused on the skinning aspect.

Thanks in advance!

Stephen

When I was new to Torque I wanted to do the exact same thing as you. Add to that, that I didn't have a clue on where to start.

Searching the resources turned out this and it helped me design our GUI by looking at the scripts and code within the resource.

Of course, this might not be an option for you as you're not an owner of the SDK. So sorry for the confusion this answer might give.

Interestingly enough, this didn't appear in my search criteria, but I can view it directly with your link (community manager take note if this is an issue).

I'm in the unique position of being a Proejct Lead (adminstrative) without access to the SDK forums, however my coding team does have licenses, so this comes as a pleasant, but (somewhat) expected surprise. Thanks for the link and information!

Just out of curiosity, what did you search on to find that link? I tried several iterations of gui skins, and it didn't satify the search engine...

I stepped over it by accident kinda.

When I started planning how the gui would look like and what was needed, I searched trough all resources (code & how-to's) and added everything interesting as bookmarks.

There are meta keywords inside each resource that the poster choses I think.

Our current gui is entirely made by looking at this code. I used it as a reference and template. Really a nice resource if you want to learn.

Good luck with the GUI'n! :D

Map Editor? :P It's Torque's World Editor - but for interiors it's WorldCraft 3.4 (ie buildings and stuff)
