A Proper Introduction

by Chris Leyton · in Torque Game Engine · 04/26/2004 (2:18 pm) · 8 replies

OK I've had the Torque Engine for a couple of months now, hacked away with little success and made a few posts in an attempt to share your brains.

Right so a proper introduction; I'm a videogame nut, obsessed by them and fortunate enough to work in the industry - however my life-long dream is actually creating my own games, but sadly this is never going to be easy.

However I've never been afraid of hard work, so I'm hoping somebody might be able to give me a few pointers to get things moving a little.

I've spent a good amount of time looking through various articles on this website and forums plus many external sites, and have a sound understanding of the basics, however it's getting underneath the code that is causing the headaches and insomnia...

My ambition (and what I've spent a year designing) is an open-ended soccer title, where events within the game dictate the players rise from schoolboy to professional. Whilst I can understand the theory behind game programming and have experience in C++, and various aspects with regards to physics, etc... I'm coming unstuck when it comes to applying this within Torque - particualrly when it's so hard to begin creating a title that isn't a FPS.

This is really a plea for help; any links to tutorials, debates or anything else that you think may be relevant would be extremely appreciated - you'll never know how much :)
