Looking for team members for a project that will go the distance

by James Brad Barnette · in Jobs · 04/01/2004 (8:24 pm) · 6 replies

I looking for team member to help me build a game that I have been working on the design document for quite a long time on and off. I have built some test models and played around and worked on other mods and such till I got all my ideas in a row. Unfortunately, I'm a 3D Artist by trade. I took C++ in college and made a B in it but in all honesty I'm no programmer. The point is I'm looking for people like you. People that are looking to get into the game industry and have made somewhat of a little home here at GG. I need talented, creative people and for that I'm willing to throw most of the spoils in your direction.

Like I said I have most of it worked out at this point as far as game play and things of that nature. I have been documenting my ideas for a while. So now I need a team. So if you are over 18 and looking for a project that will give you a contract guaranteeing your royalties, then this is the project for you.

Looking for:
3D Artist
2D Artist
Programmers
Scripter
PR & Production Assistants

Member will need to attend planning chats / online meetings. Applicants will need to meet the following criteria to be considered:

Be able to provide samples of your work
Be at least 18 years of age "exceptions may be made if an individual is extremely talented and can provide written permission from a legal guardian"
Be located inside the United States "if not contact me we can discuss it depending on the laws of your country, Just please note it in you application"
Be legally allowed to work in the United States
Have your own software. "The only software we will provide will be that of our proprietary tools. License for Torque engine can be provided for those with experience and validated sample work"
Have internet access at you home or what ever location that you intend to work at. You will be provided with email that you will need to check regularly but instant messenger is the preferred method.

This is a project that WILL be in at least one MAJOR US store chain and will be sold online. If you are looking for a project with people that are serious about games, then this project may be what you are looking for.

You've already got a retail contract, James?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but with only a design doc and no team I seriously doubt that a publisher has offered you a retail contract with "at least one MAJOR US store chain". I get that you want to look more appealing to the local tallent then the thousands of newbs around here that beg for help, but making empty promises just isn't cool.

Um, im not saying James is one of them, but there are more then a few people capable of getting a deal like that with just a design document.

I said nothing about a publishing deal. You guys should read closer before jumping on people.

I know the buyer for the store chain and am able to have product in the store under a consignment contract. I also have an investor that is willing pay for the production of the product and marketing materials.

This is assuming that a publisher is not interested in the game when it is either at a demo level or finished.

I never said anything about a publisher I suggest you read a little closer and find someone else to rip on.

and Jeremy: yes you are correct. Most of the games published are pitched with only a design doc and some concept art.

James,

I was the one who first asked about a contract, because you said it WILL be in at least one major US store chain..." So, it sounded like you had a contract.

Not to disuade you, but your profile says the project will be 18 months. That's a long time for a team to work on a royalty-based project.

Believe me. I've been there. :)

About the design doc/concept art: I'm afraid that only really applies if the person/team has one (or even more) already published titles. Ideas are a dime-a-dozen. :)

Look you are obviously not interested so could you go find another thread.
This is supposed to be a community for building teams not raggin on people and tearing them down. Man sometime GG can be the most negitive place. And it is becasue of people like you. Just move on if you are not interested in a project don't sit there and trash up thier thread. That is just rude.

So either join up or shut up and move on.

Yes development will be about 18 months. and if I can get some investment and can pay some people I will. but I'm not going to promise people somthing I can't deliver for sure.

So the rest of you if you are interested in being constructive and positive. Then Please apply. If not Go find another project. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you are very successful with what ever you choose to do.
