Virtues of a new license

I really wanted to start a thread that talks positively about the new license. I'm not a fanboy, and I don't do any butt-kissing, but I do appreciate a good deal when I find one. I find that people who are happy with what they have aren't usually very vocal. They're too busy playing with, or learning, or using what they have. I started working with the TGE about a year and a half ago. I was attracted to it because it was $100. I have to admit, I didn't do as much research as I probably should have. But I was very happy to know that I didn't have to. It's really been more of an intuitive experience, and not a hassle.

I saw Jeff's .plan about the new license and I was exstatic. $495 for the commerical version of the license. Then I'm free and clear to do what I want with the engine. That just isn't as restrictive as $10k. At $495, it's still restrictive, mind you, cause I'm not made of money -- but I can at least set my sights on it. $10,000 wasn't within any budget of mine.

I look forward to the day when I have to buy the commerical license! That means I will have made it... I will be doing what I want to do most. If it means I have to display the TGE logo to get there, then so be it. The engine, and GG are the one's who are making my dreams come true.

I think about it this way: $100 bought me:

1) An evolving engine
2) A supportive community
3) The ability to communicate with ALL of the engine's developers (yeah, that means you too!)
4) Tons of resources (because of accessibility of the engine)

Let's hear what you all have to say about this. And I really hope that this thread doesn't degrade into a flame war.

Totally agree with you Brett. I don't think you can get a better deal than this. Everytime I think GG has done everything they can to make things as easy as possible for indies, they do something new.

Torque has given the most bang for my buck of any purchase.

I hate to sound like an @$$ kiss but I am truly happy with GG. I by no means think the logo thing is a problem. I intended to use it anyway.

In the end it is good for all of us. It will help GG become a household name and will cross-advertise the other games available.

I think this new licensing scheme is much, much, much more fair than the previous one. As I said in a post before, I don't have any problem paying for a comercial license if *I* make $250K; not if the publisher makes $500K and I make 5!
