Script Control the Bones of a DTS shape?

Hello,
I am creating some DTS models and am trying to figure out how to align the feet of my model to the ground.
The question is:
Can I align the bone transformation for the foot bone to match the predominate normal of the surface the shape is standing on?
If I can do this through a script great. If not, then I can understand the C++ method if someone can give me a head start of where to get the surface information so I can add script support for it. I would imagine the player object has some knowledge of the inclines in order to prevent climbing up a shear wall.
Thanks,
Frank
