Just to review, I spelled Grim as Grin on purpose, to give the feeling that the Grin Reaper is actually just a "child". As for "reaping" people, it doesn't matter who you "reap" as long as you follow a list that has specific times and locations and is given to you around the begining of the game. So if you need to "take" John Johnson at 8:30 at the town square and succeed that's fine but if you take him at 8:29 or 8:31 you lose points the same goes for location. If you get him at home or something you lose points too. As for the Reaper's partners, he will three of them: Aves, the baby raven you bring up during the game; Sir Stillive, the lonesome zombie of the round table and Vampiro, obviosly a vampire.
The RPG fighting part is not in the reaping part for most of the game, but actually in fighting evil spirits that intend to take the souls of humans and enslaving them to vanquish the Reapers, but toward the end of the game you will need the RPG style fighting to reap humans that are possesed by demons.
I will update this as soon as possible.

You should choose what kind of engine you want based on what kind of story you have. If the reaper is the only character the player controls, you should make his level-ups (or whatever) a major portion of the game.
You should get the story written as quickly as you can (and then keep improving it as you go along). That will make easier to find programmers, etc. When I was looking for a job on the help wanted board, I picked the RPG that looked like it was most complete.
