Howdy peeps!
Well, I've been doing some research for my space game and Ive gathered a number of different space games to test out (and learn from).
So far Ive got/seen:
XWing Series
Freelancer
Freespace
Tachyon
Ive Found Her (similar to the one below)
Homeplanet
Homeworld
IWar2
Starshatter
StarWraith
Eve-Online
Earth and Beyond
Bang! Gunship Elite
Allegiance
DarkSpace
Yager
Mace Griffin
Have still to get:
XCom Apocalypse (not too bothered).
Vendetta
Ace of Angels
X2
Terminus
Echelon
Hardwar
Vega Strike
So what I want to ask is, does anyone know of any other space games, or games set in space (even partially?). They must really be combat games, but I'm flexible :)

One really old game that space-related (not a space sim like the others mentioned above) was an old EA top-down adventure game called "Hard Nova." It was pretty interesting to start, but lost its appeal after a while. I recall that they were really detailed on their planets, though. Dunno if that's up your alley or not.

I thought of your space game at e3 when I played the demo of the expansion pack for Lucas Arts Star Wars: Galaxies Jump to Lightspeed - due out fall of 2004. These screenshots don't do the graphics quality justice - Gamepro coverage after playing for only a few seconds it felt like a new quality of graphical experience.

SPACE INVADERS !!
ASTEROIDS
Defender
Galaga
Atari had the first game I ever saw that uses the same gameplay as the new ones. I forgot it's name though :-(
It used both joysticks ( one for map movement ) and had a MAP to drive you to what planet you wanted
And : ZAXXON !

I think Eve online looks FAR FAR nicer. But I'm sure that the actual experience is much much better in SWG.
But its not boding well for my little space sim is it :) But hey.. thats what code packs are for! :)

Hmmm, looks like that Jump to Lightspeed may address at least two if not all of the three biggest problems with Star Wars Galaxies:1) No Stars.
2) No Wars.
3) No Galaxies

As a rule i generally don't like these types of games, but Colony Wars was quite a fun game.psx.ign.com/articles/152/152034p1.html?fromint=1
