I would like to make a Mech game that is like a RPG and action game. you can play as a mech when fighting and human when not. I am already working on this idea and I am going to use DarkBASIC To program it.

I like the idea though, but I dunno about DarkBasic. I gave it a go before, and my only thing was I wanted to create a game. Not a game engine. lol.
That and the DarkBasic editor program aside from debugging makes wordpad look like a super powerfull program.
In fact before I would do DarkBasic I would go with Reality Factory. Although it is nowhere near Torque's level it's free (no multiplayer) and well it's darn near point and click.

Makes me think of that Playstation RPG that was like Final Fantasy only sometimes you fought as the character, and other times as the character in a big mech. Xenogears I think it was called although it wasn't an action style game.I like the idea though, but I dunno about DarkBasic. I gave it a go before, and my only thing was I wanted to create a game. And I don't know about DarkBasic either. For all I know it could be great, but it could be junk too. But go ahead and try it out.
If people are criticizing you on the darkbasic forums, read carefully what they said. There may be useful tidbits of information in there. Obviously talking about tuna sandwiches didn't help you, but you didn't give us alot to give you feedback on.

It sounds like a good idea, but you didn't really tell us anything about it.And I don't know about DarkBasic either. For all I know it could be great, but it could be junk too. But go ahead and try it out.

If you're planning on doing a large project in DarkBASIC, I wish you good luck. You'll need it...and a lot of patience. I have DBPro and it's good for some things, and you can do nice work with it. But a large project? Perhaps....

Sounds a bit like what you are trying to do. They chose the TGE here at Garage Games.
You can get it here for $100.
(Sorry for the shameless plug on TGE, its second nature now. I don't try to fight it)

You can find Reality Factory at http://www.realityfactory.co/v2/
I hope I don't get into trouble for posting that info. It's a free engine, but it's not Torque quality, and offers no multiplayer. Yet being free with free editors, and very easy to use it's good for roughing out ideas. Once you get it down it's pretty much a plug, and play engine. It lacks multiplayer like I said though, and Torque's speed, and map capabilities. Still for free it beats every other free engine I've seen for ease of use.
As far as a Mech/RPG goes I think it's a good idea if done right. Don't fret about critisism most people will warn you away from trying to do a big project on your own. Not that they are wrong they aren't it's just hard to do.
You have to program everything (except the engine)
You have to model, and skin everything.
All of the story/plot line is left up to you
Sound is all on your shoulders, and the biggest hurdle of them all is time.
Like I can spend 3-4 hours at least on modelling a single weapon like a Galil for example. If I photoskin then I save a bunch of time. Yet there is still sound for that weapon, animation for the weapon, and game implementation.
All in all that at least 12+ hours of work to get it in game with todays standard of quality.
Not to mention the week or so it might take me to model 1 body whether human or other. Then there's walking animation, jumping animation, crouching animation, side stepping animation, firing animation, and possibly swimming, climbing, laying down, leaning animations. Depending on the engines you need transition animations like walking to running, running to jumping, jumping to swimming etc.
So thats basically a simple run down why people may say something when it comes to one person trying to do everything.
Especially with an RPG because what makes an RPG is the story, and that in itself is like writing a book.
I'm not trying to discourage either but organization is a must. You just have to take everything one step at a time. I wish I could give more advice but I'm a newb to it all myself.

No it was Xenogears, and was like a Final Fantasy style RPG on playstation. Yet you had controller combo's for attacks, and during certain portions you had a mech. You can find Reality Factory at http://www.realityfactory.co/v2/
