Ammo warnings and smoking tanks just aren't enough!!

by The Brain (SA) · in ThinkTanks · 12/21/2003 (12:37 am) · 11 replies

There are certain rules when you make a game that go without saying.

One of these mentions that you should have a health bar/counter and an ammo counter.

The only things in thinktanks that are even close to those are the tanks smoking when health is low and a message saying "You are low on ammo".

Someone has already created a FPS counter and a time counter.

Can we get counters for health and ammo? I don't think it's too much to ask.

If you are undertaking this then you're efforts are, and will be, greatly apreciated.

I heartly disagree.

A good bit of the entertainment in TTanks is the insecurity, and false confidence, that are the result of less than accurate information regarding survivability.

See past threads to reveal the falsehood of the Brain's claim.

cue: usual half-hearted attempt to locate said thread.

we've debated this to death. NO COUNTERS! NO METERS! Just my tank and a radar to sail her by...
if thick black smoke and a "LOW AMMO" warning aren't enough for you, allow me to recommend MSFT FLIGHT SIM 8000.

Good to see you up and about sluggo.

It seems I have been proven wrong.

I can see why they decided to not put health and ammo meters in.

Still, it would have been nice to have at least SOME idea of how much health and ammo you have left.

Joe says for version 1.2 addons

"Health Meter (will need playtesting)"

We playtested it and as expected, it made the game less fun.

A smoking tank is enough of a sign for me to either target the person or get the hell out of the fray.

I have no problem with the smoking and the guy telling you ya need some ammo. its rare you run out of ammo anyway(unless ur me)(not to boast)
and with my months of chasing smokers its become a sixth sense of mine to tell how many bb's itll take to kill someone

The ammo station blinks on the radar when you need ammo. The health powerups blink on the radar when you need them and they are available. The scrum blinks on the radar, unless you have it. If you have the scrum the goal blinks. In CTF your goal blinks when your team has the scrum. The blinking tells you what you need to know.

TT tip #1: Look at the blinking radar. :)
