Snowball fight!

Well, not literally anyway.

But, I recently began working on a terrain edit for my own personal reasons, basically for another project I'm working on (that I won't disclose yet), and it began to turn out better than I expected. It's my first real edit to anything in TT.

Since I live up in the NorthEast (US) where we've already had 2 realtively big snowfalls, I thought I'd make a terrain that fit with the weather.

I had no plans of releasing it for others to see or use originally, but as I began to work more and more on it, I thought, what the heck, don't be shy.

Here are some pics as it stands right now:

idisk.mac.com/mm2270/Public/images/snow_screen07.jpgNote the nice "driven snow" effect, or, at least that's what I was aiming for.

idisk.mac.com/mm2270/Public/images/snow_screen09.jpgMost of the effects have been modified to fit with the theme. So, your tank's standard issue ammo becomes... snowballs, of course, complete with a nice exploding snowball effect.

idisk.mac.com/mm2270/Public/images/snow_screen03.jpgI even managed to add in some subtle tank treadmarks in the snow. Was Hum|Bot| just through here?

I have more pics, lots more, but I don't want to bog down this page with too many images, so I'll stop there.

I still have a few details I need to work out on some objects, and a better sky than what I currently have, but I'm close to finishing I think.

Any comments, good or bad, will be welcomed.

Thanks for all the nice comments! I'll be posting them out very soon. Probably later today sometime.
As for Fleabiscuit's suggestion, does anyone know how I would change the trees to the spooky (no leaves) type? If I could do that I would, but I don't know how, if it's even possible.

As soon as I'm finished with a few tweaks, I'll post them on my iDisk public site and post the URL.

Personally, I prefer them with the frosted leaves.

Y'know how in winter you can see your breath?

You should edit the smoke colours so it looks like that!

OK, I'm done.

Done as I'll ever be anyway. It's crazy, I could spend hours, days, weeks or more continuing to tweak this mod, but it would become pointless in the end.

I'm not totally happy with the way the sky turned out (visible seams), but I'm including it in the download anyway. I personally prefer -Z-'s Overcast sky. It goes well with my Winter Wonderland terrain (that's what I decided to call it)

What I have is a total of 43 files to install to get the full effect. Of course, what each of you install is up to you. But the Terrain files, including the "detail1.jpg" are important, as are the files in the "tanks" folder. The rest includes mods to the Recharge station, jump pad, power-ups, etc.

So, to get it, just CLICK HERE

A few things:

@ The Brain, I liked your idea of changing the smoke to look like frost, but it turned out to be kind of impossible. Apparently the game can only display shades of black as smoke, so making it white didn't work. In fact, somehow I ended up with rusty red smoke, which was a cool effect, but not appropriate for this mod. I might use it for something else someday though...

The trees stayed the way they are in the pics. Didn't want to get involved with figuring out how to change them, and besides, they do look good with frost on the leaves.

If someone wants to include them in a collection of mods, feel free to do so. Just mention my name next to them if possible :-)

That's all. Thanks again for all the comments.

OM

PS- if anyone has problems downloading for any reason, post back, or send me an email.

NICE, OM.

Woo! Looking good! I would get them, but it would take too long to put everything in... maybe tomorrow. I love the tread marks! It looks very professional, coupled with -Z-'s Autumnal England and maybe someone's May Flowers or something and we can have a Four Seasons server (summer being the normal lush). Not sure how we'd alternate the files though.. Maybe -Z- the wondrous can figure something out...

Those rocks are from my Arctic Skid terrain set. I'm not mad though, great to see people modifying my terrains. Love it by the way! Great work!

@Nathan,

Actually I made everything in this set myself from scratch. I haven't seen your Arctic Skid terrains, but if they look like yours, it's a complete coincidence, I assure you! I would have definitely given you credit for that if I had used them.
What it says to me is that great minds think alike! ;)

Is there a place I can see or download your Arctic set? I'd really like to see them.

@FilbertMM - I agree it can be a little hard to see your projectiles on the white-on-white effect, but since I've been using it, I also find it easier to spot the dark tanks against the white background. Maybe that's just me though. What we need to go with this, is a nice whitish tank skin! Haha! Then you'd be practically invisible!

Great looking Mod!
If you do decide to change the trees you can simply alter the Alpha jpg for the leaves. If it is all black then the leaves image will not appear. Or if you want to use the 'Spooky' trees you simple open your mission files in a text editor, find the tree directories and respecify them to whichever folder/tree files you want to load. I don't have my files right here in front of me so I can't give exact directory names- sorry. But it should look something like this -- "shapes/Green/TreeGreen01.dts". You would simply redirect it to another folder/object like this -- "shapes/Red/TreeRed01.dts".
But in any case I think the tress look great as they are-- the frosty look works very well.
