By reverting you have to uninstall your current drivers, reboot, and then install the old ones such as the 45.x. If you do not do it this way you will still have the problem.Logan

Forceware 53.03 drivers just released... no idea if they fix anything.

This driver review doesn't seem to note any degradation in performance

Are you having this problem with just torque? or with other games/engines as well? This driver review doesn't seem to note any degradation in performance

Hmm thats a real problem. I had a similar one wit early 41 drivers on my non TGE engine, allthough the new drivers are fine. There was a problem with the early detonators and 3d swith 2D overlay slowing down to 5-7 FPS lol, really sucked.

I think the 53.03's are fine. Maybe not AS good as the 45's but MUCH better than the 52's nonetheless.

Any of the 53.x series drivers causes a huge fps drop in Torque, mostly when viewing interior objects. Other objects such as player models etc, appear fine.

Has anybody in the Torque community notified Nvidia of this issue.

I haven't heard of any other games suffering from this with the forceware drivers, so I consider this a serious issue. There was also a thread a while ago about P4's having performance issues, but it turned out that they were using the Forceware drivers, and that caused the slowdown.
I think the exact OpenGL call causing the slowdown was found there, using profiling.
(Here's that thread: http://www.garagegames.com/mg/forums/result.thread.php?qt=14496)
Would it be possible for someone at GG to comment on this? Mark? Rick? This is a confirmed problem with Torque, and T2 even.
Even if it cannot be resolved by modifying Torque, it would be a good idea to communicate to nVidia exactly what they're messing up in the new Forceware drivers, and seeing as nVidia is pretty open to working with vendors, I'd hope that GG would be able to handle this.

Not too sure if anyone has. Tribes2, is also suffering from the same fate.I haven't heard of any other games suffering from this with the forceware drivers, so I consider this a serious issue. Bumping this for anyone's feedback. Has anyone tried any of the later Forceware drivers and received better results?

Don't use forceware drivers on no FX cards they drop the fps on other games as well.

And a number of OpenGL games work just fine on ForceWare.
I'm not saying Torque is the problem (since the problem is caused by the new drivers), but it's obviously some way in which Torque is using OpenGL that causes a slowdown.
Ideally, what I'd like to see is GarageGames communicating with nVidia to resolve the issue. They work closely with other game engine vendors to ensure stability/performance, and I'd like to see GG use the muscle to do the same...

Well, Forceware drops the FPS for Tribes2, and Torque on both my FX and GF4Ti cards. And a number of OpenGL games work just fine on ForceWare.

Well, has anyone tried to contact nvidia? If not, I'll do that. I know a few people over there. Maybe they know what's going on.

Hope somebody reads it.
Good day.

I've been reading the posts about this issue, but I haven't experienced any problems or drops in frame rate myself. I've downgraded back to the 40 series and upgraded again just to make sure.
I'm using 53.03 drivers under win2k (sp4)
GF4 MX-440 64MB
Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton)
I'm afraid I've waited so long and endured so much eye strain waiting for built-in refresh rate tweaking in opengl, I wouldn't downgrade even if I was having problems ;)

So it's an XP and/or Driver problem????

Win2k sp4
Athlon XP 1700+
GeForce 3 64M
Using the 45.x drivers fixes the issue.

I'm guessing this is a driver issue. I get low fps on a Win2k box with the 53.x drivers:Win2k sp4
Athlon XP 1700+
GeForce 3 64M
Using the 45.x drivers fixes the issue.

@Marco - have you contacted nVIDIA yet?
Funny, I just posted on this problem a few days back. I noticed the same thing in Linux so it's not just a XP thing.
I'll be interested in knowing if nVIDIA will do a fix - asking our game users to install outdated drivers won't be an easy sell :)

I also see low fps in Linux but I haven't verified that it's the drivers by rolling back to a previous version.
