Lag question

by Spunky · in ThinkTanks · 12/07/2003 (8:34 am) · 1 replies

Why is it that whenever someone is experiencing major lag, they go into what I like to call a "ballerina twirl"? Which by that I mean that they spin around in circles and are invincible. I've only seen this a couple of times, though.
Is it something about the lag that makes them do that?
Thanks.

When they lag out, your computer uses their last command to figure out where they will be next. So if they were driving forward and turning, their tank will continue to drive forward and turn on your screen. If they don't come back from the lag, they will continue to drive forward turning until the server times them out and drops their connection. Sometimes their tank will drive off the edge and onto the islands in the distance.

The reason they are invincible, is because they aren't really where you are seeing them. Their actual tank according to the server is sitting still back in the spot where they lagged out.

Sometimes you will run into this lag spot. You can see thier tank somewhere else. But your tank will just stop get stuck ramming into an invisible wall. Sort of getting pushed back out of the spot, you can't drive forward. Like you are being held in place. You can back out of it, but when you pull forward again, it's still there.

If you shoot that invisible wall, you will kill their tank. If they had the scrum, and you ram that spot, you will get the scrum.

Ahhhh, networking. Your quirks and oddities will never cease.
