Harvest Moon/Animal Crossing Like Game For PC

Well, I've been thinking about doing this for about a year, I origanaly was gonna get a open source ROM for the SNES version of HM. But I think I'm gonna use a diffrent thing.

I am going to make it totally from scratch, these are the features I'm going to include.

-Lots of Villagers who can move in and you can marry
-You can cheat on your spouse
-You can chop down any tree
-You start out with a ****hole to live in
-Game Runs on a Real Time Clock
-You can travel to friends towns, over the internet
-One of your goals is to have a child and help him/her married

I have only made one game before, hardly of this magnetude.
I need all the ideas I can get, I just have a couple friends helping out, but I welcome all who also want to participate.

How about mining? It can be alot like chopping down trees.

Include some of the noncombat skills from MMORPGS like Ultima Online. Just make sure you only work on one thing at a time. Don't bite off more than you can chew.

Please make it have mouse controls. It can also have keyboard controls, but mouse controls are much easier to use. And you can get devices (like NaturalPoint's Track IR) to control the mouse without using your hands - and giving yourself carpel tunnel.

Well, ok, that last suggestion is mostly because I'll want to play the game when it's done, not because it's real important on a global scale or something.

Definitely look to the RPG world for some skills to customize your character. 3rd Edition D&D has some worth copying over.

Don't stop with woodcutting and mining. Go with farming, blacksmithing, artisan, and so forth.

I really enjoyed Animal Crossing and a PC version would be great, especially since the GC lacked online play, something the game demands.

Don't forget the trading option. Different towns should have different resources, so trade will be a must. It'll require an immense library of objects (metals, fruits, woods, etc).

Keep us up-to-date!

I rarely post int he Game Ideas forum due to lack of time. However, I would love to see somebody start up an Animal Crossing type of game. The only thing that game lacked was on-line multiplayer. I loved it.

I think a team could put up a skelton version of this game with the Torque and continue to build it out. Maybe make it a community project. If it picks up any momentum, GG will get behind it in a big way.

Sweet! I say go for it!

The removal of combat would probably eliminate one of the worst points of the MMORPG. Players can then focus on whatever they want without the fear of losing their tediously built character just by visiting the wrong dungeon or irritating another player.

I'd love to help out.

OK, now my juices are flowin':

*Players create a new character with certain choices (starting skills, race, gender)
*The client software generates a random island for the character to play in.
-Island has the advantage of finite (but large) land.
-New NPCs arrive via boat dock.
-The computer can use a system of zones to create different, but equal islands for all players. Example: 1 mountain zone, 3 forest zones, 1 desert zone, etc.
*Players work and interact on the island.
-Build bigger/better home
-Get married
-Explore the island. Include ruins, fossils, etc.
*Players can send boat tickets to friends so they can visit via the internet and browse around their island.
*Central server to control mail/trading post/Bulliten board for exotic items.
*Possible Activities
-Fishing
-Planting/Harvesting
-Mining/Panning for Gold (other minerals as well)
-Digging up relics/fossils
-Woodcutting
-Gambling
-Errands
*Game Goals (of sorts)
-Upgrade House/Get Second Home
-Increase Wealth
-Get Married
-Have Kids
-Collect all of something (fish, fossils, relics, art, etc)
*Island moves in real-time
-Plants take time to grow
-Island has holidays/events
-Other than visitor travel, trade between islands takes a requisite number of days.
*Player affects the Island
-Positively (new plants, museum artifacts, etc)
-Negitively (Overlogging, mining, etc)
-NPCs react to these changes for good or ill.

Some random thoughts...
