Maya???

Does anyone know if there is a DTS exporter for Maya or if it is in Development maybe?

I am currently looking around to buy a 3d package and Maya unlimited 5 is going for $1999 as to Max's $3000. Much cheaper.

Then there is Gamesspace but I want to buy a package that I will also be able to create Good quality stuff with for Cutscenes etc. Wil gameSpace be good enough for that?
From the renders button on their site it definetly looks like it but I'm not too sure those where rendered in gamespace. Truespace yes.
Milkshape wont be able to do High Poly's that cutsecenes use.

Any thoughts that could help me.

You could use Animation Master ($300, though there is an educational discount) for the cutscenes. I used an older version for a while, and was very pleased with the way things were handled. It's not good for in-game art, though, since it's difficult to get low-poly stuff. Milkshape isn't awful for low-poly, though not the best. I'm in the process of updating the Milkshape exporter to work better, but there are some major limitations to the way Milkshape does things. I still recommend it based on the price, though, and it's slowly getting better.

Maya is awesome... I love it. If there is a DTS exporter, it would not be very good (unusable) at this stage. One may eventually be developed, but that's just speculation. If I ever get a copy of Maya, I'll take the time to write the exporter.

There is a free Maya PLE available - but I dont know if it will work with the full version if you write a exporter for it. Yeah for the price Milkshape is cool but it looks like I'm going to have to give GameSpace a try.

Im going to download the trail of AM. as well Thanks for the info - after all these apps and demos I hope I make the right choice ;( Maya is expensive though and I dont feel that I want to fork out $1999 just yet. Maybe try AM. or gamespace first.

AG NO!! :( there is no DEMO for Animation Master!! :( It looks very cool as well. Maybe even cooler than GameSpace....
I would like to see a demo though. I told myself that I will NEVER buy anything again if I didnt have a DEMO first. ( I had a BAD and EXPENSIVE experience ).

The Maya PLE will not work... you can't write exporters for it. It's called the Personal Learning Edition for a reason. It also has really annoying watermarks all over the place.

I can say that Animation Master has been around over 10 years, and is a great program, though it works differently than Max and Maya. It's like A:M is Illustrator and Max/Maya are Paintshop Pro. A:M uses splines and patches instead of polygons. So it takes a while to get used to, but is an awesome product.

I personaily recommend gameSpace. For a mere $300 you get a modeling program that is just as good as Max or Maya. Im currently working with trueSpace 6. And I like the feel of the program. Both trueSpace and gameSpace have semilar layouts. Also, GarageGames and Caligari (maker of gameSpace) are working together to create a direct DTS exporter to and from Torque! The price, the tools, and the exporter are enough reasons for me alone to purchase this great program.

Just for clarification, Maya Unlimited is $6999. Maya Complete is $1999.
