Firewalls

by Otis Patwin · in ThinkTanks · 11/05/2003 (1:19 pm) · 4 replies

I just downloaded thinktanks after I had my computer reformated by my tech. He put in a firewall for me. I think but I am not sure this may be why my registered thanktanks does not work. My problem is I don't know how to open my fire wall to let think tanks through if that is what is happening. I don't even know if the fire wall has a name. When I go to click on my icon thinktanks the screen goes blank and the goes back to my disktop with a window pop up that says (thinktank.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows you will need to restart the program.) I restarted the program and it just happened all over again. I went through the same steps clicking on my thinktank icon and it went blank again and came with the same message. Please help me guys if you can. signed oldbaldyjp@yahoo.com

I'm having problems getting around my firewall also. I must be missing something in the settings. I have Zone Alarm Pro. Maybe someone can give me a few tips on the manual set up so that when I create a server that it shows on the list.

If you are using a hardware router with a built in firewall, you probably have to log into your router and set up port forwarding. For ThinkTanks the ports to open are 28000 to 28010

Your router's documentation and Flea's link are both good for help to do that part.

When you want to check if your server can be seen by the outside world, go here:
    gnometech.com/cgi-bin/ggmslist.cgi?s=4

If you see your server on the list, it's working. If it's not there, then it is probably one of the "Timed Out" links.

Thanks gang but it was one of my drivers that was missing on my graphic cards. I updated my nivida drivers and the game plays fine. Thanks for all your help now if only some one can give me a tip on how to fight off all those tanks I would be a happy camper. Yes I have tried hanging off a clif , behind trees , heavy tanks , light tanks, medium tanks,up the hill down the hill, behind the hill, using the arrow for speed , distance shooting, even used witch craft to put a curse on them but in the end they beat the holy hell out of me. I use quick mode so I can get the practice. I have tried ramming them , comeing up behind them and they still beat the hell out of me. I'm only one tank to there ten. Oh well I can always take up drinking then I will be too drunk to give a dam lol. Just kidding on the drink , haven't touch the stuff for over thirty years had to save my money for this tank game lol. Thanks again guys and keep up the good work.. (WHO LOVES YOU BABY OLD TANK KILLER THATS WHO.) signing off for now , oldbaldyjp

I don't think anyone is going to give you tips that might lead to you happily camping in thier scrum games. :)

There is a thread on Solo-mode strategies buried somewhere in the depths of the forums though...
