Capture the Flag

Does anyone know what happened to the Capture the Flag server? In the short time I noticed it being around, it became my favorite of the three ThinkTanks variants. Is there a way to get it back?

I agree it's by far the best game out there! Perfect blend of Scrum and Battlemode. Requires a real "team" mentality to win too.
-z-, if you're out there, please at least post to let us know what's up with it. Don't leave us hanging like this! :)

Cassius, you beat me too it. I was just going to post on CTF myself today. I have no idea where it went, but ThinkTanks just isn't the same without it. I got addicted to Capture the Flag over the last month. Since its disappearance, I haven't logged nearly as much time on the TT servers.I agree it's by far the best game out there! If I know -Z-, he's probably tweaking something.
Just to attest to the popularity of -Z-'s mod, the CTF server is always packed. There's been quite a bit of in-game chatter about why the server is not up. A lot of the newbies don't realize that CTF is a user mod, hosted by a user. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Bravetree incorporates it into the main build of TT. For now, just be patient and enjoy CTF when possible.

Last I heard was that Dan MacDonald was hosting the server for -Z-. -Z-'s computer is all the way across the pond and is busy with real world duties which require bandwidth, so Dan took over hosting the CTF server and the connection speed improved. If I know -Z-, he's probably tweaking something.

I hadn't realised it had gone down until just now, but have now restarted it.

Dan MacDonald is actually paying for a dedicated server to host CTF so neither of us are actually hosting it from our own computers. So thanks should equally be headed his way for that. There is no way I could keep it permanently up 24-7 from my computer (and, being across the pond from most of you, lag was a real issue while I was)I hadn't realised it had gone down until just now, but have now restarted it.

Thanks, -Z- and Dan!
And assuming I've guessed correctly LC50, it's good to see someone else putting sites like freetranslation.com to good use:

Thanks for responding! Now we know what happened. I hadn't realized that -Z- was "across the pond" as you put it, so that's an issue, as is hosting it from your own computer.
I can see how newbies would think CTF was just part of TT, as it's a very well thought out mod. And wow, Dan's paying for a server? I hope Bravetree incorporates into TT soon, so he doesn't have to shell out money for too long. Heck, I'd be willing to send a small donation his way to keep it going in the meanwhile, just to show my appreciation for this game!
Thank you -Z- and Dan!
Hope to see you guys on CTF soon!

How's ThinkTanksMania coming along, -z-? You certainly have some grand designs in the works; be sure to let us know when everything becomes functional!

And what about the league?? When does that begin?

CTF Totally Rocks but I liked it better when it was scrum mode. When I play, I usually end up being the person holding the flag in the goal. So I end up scoring all the team points for the win, but my individual score is dead last. I guess I "take it for the team" but it would be nice to have an individual score. I do however see the logic in having it in Battlemode. would there be a way to combine both modes and make the team score a total between scrum and battle??? That would be sooo cooool!!!

1 point per kill, 1 point for every five made in the goal. That way it keeps both levels even.

i cant think that kills are harder to get than possession scores.

5 team goals = 1 kill point flibo, you are confused?i cant think that kills are harder to get than possession scores.

The problem with goal scoring is greedy teammates. Teammates will bump you to take possession of the scrum in order to get personal points which, as we all know will start the clock over. This happens way to often as it is, just because teammates hang in the ring and don't watch where they're going.
Personally my kill score is meaningless in CTF. Kills, goals, steals and blocks are all equally important for a team success. So if the team wins I win, and my team usually wins. Perhaps there should only be the team score like in most team sports. If there was some complex stats recorder script that would be great but I don't see a simple way to accurately keep score of players performance in CTF happening anytime soon.

They just come quicker, and it rests more on other players skills defending you then your skill in sitting in the goal. That is why I say 5 to 1.

I gotta agree with Tally on this one. 1 for 1 is the best way... and combine the possession points with all the kill points to total up the win. That's the fairest way for both sides. Even if Blue posses the scrum the whole round, green could still win if they get a lot of kills. which is totally fair, because it'll give credit where credit is due. That's my opinion, does everyone agree?

In the early days of scrum there was a huge group of players that refused to learn the game...they just camped. We just responded by asking them to try and learn the game. It worked.

I agree totally with MAX. I think coddling to the immature flag steeling crowd by downgrading the scoring stats to include kills only wastes screen space with meaninglessness. In the early days of scrum there was a huge group of players that refused to learn the game...they just camped. I can't tell you how many times I've had the scrum in the home base, only to get it "bumped" away by teammates who seem to think that's the most important thing, rather than the score for the whole team. And of course it'll happen right as the count is down at 1 or 2, resetting the clock again! Ugh!! I can't stand that. Sometimes it's purely accidental, and I'm OK with that, but I know at times it's done intentionally and that really burns me up. So, I agree that individual "scrum-style" scores should be kept out of CTF.
In fact, I also agree that maybe the individual kill scores should be left out as well. I've been in more than a few games where someone is just killing everyone in sight to get a high kill score, and then proudly trumpeted "I WIN!!!!!" at the end of the game! LOL!! "Who cares!" is what i want to say. I was in one game with this individual on the same team as them (I'll keep names out of it) and I happened to be making more individual kills that they were. Not intentionallly, I was just having a good defensive game, and they actually started killing me! Unbelievable! Some people are so childish. I wish there was a way to screen out players like that...

1 kill within distance of a goal=2 points
1 kill not by goal=1 point
this encourages people to defend the goal, and steal he flag. I agree w/ Max, lets keep the scrum scoring out!

I make lots of kills, but I do not go away from the flag to get them. I just knock of the tanks that are in the way, or shooting at someone on my team. I normally place first, but not because I am an immature person who thinks it is BTW. perhaps it should be more complicated.1 kill within distance of a goal=2 points

Fibert the whole point of Capture The Flag is how long you possess the flag in your base. I'm not understanding exactly what your saying.
