Reg Key Passing

by LC50 · in ThinkTanks · 10/17/2003 (5:59 am) · 51 replies

This morning I came across "CZK" passing out Registration Keys to any Demo who asked for it.

Here's a detail of my screen grab, with reg key partially covered:

Joe and the rest of the BT crew have been so great to us TT regulars; it makes me mad to see their game being given away for free.

Well that sucks. If you see people doing this, please ask them to stop.

If you catch the reg code, email it to me so I can get with GarageGames and see about shutting them down.

BTW, there should be a large influx of new demo players coming in, so if people are recruiting for Leagues and Armies, this weekend would be a good time to do so.

Feel free to forward any such screen shots to support@bravetree.com...we'll try to track down the abuser and "talk them out of it".

I really appreciate the way BraveTree has made the key usable again and again. That has led me to install this game on three computers, a PC, iBook, and eMac. People who abuse the key like this should be tarred and feathered. At least.

Also i heard someone saying somthing about a crack for this game.

this is almost THE WORST thing you could do to this small company.

i mean this is not free stuff here, i would DEFENTLY pay for this game, and the crack CRASHES YOUR COMPUTER!

This is all very bad here and if this gets around....... BAM! this could be horrable!

I have a nice empty spot in my garden. Easy to dig and the roses could use some "organic" fertilizer.

I have seen alot of newbies doubt that many bought the game recently definatly some abuse going on Bravetree should start thinking about security messures for TT2 Release maybe like warcraft only one registration number online at a time, see who shares then lol

Should I do a "sting opperation"? Changing my name then going into a room of demos and asking them if they want the code? I would then give them a fake code and take a record of all the cheaters for further reference! Or better yet, ask them for their emails so I could send "it" to them!!!

Nate, that is is a good thought, but is bad in another way, because I have thinktanks loaded into like 3 or 4 computers, and I wouldn't like to pay for another reg key if I already purchased the game.

as my father will say: good in thought, poor min practice

After hearing about this code-passing going on, I had an idea. This would be a little bit of work, but how about checking each player's code when they enter the multiplayer lobby? Lots of popular multiplayer games use this method. If the code the player is using matches any other player's code who is online, they will not be able to join or host any multiplayer game. Using this method, the original distributor of the code would not be able to play if someone is using his/her code. Also, the original owner would be able to install the game on multiple computers.

I believe the license is for one computer only......If so you are already technically breaking the law (I have it on 2 computers also) and Bravetree needs to protect there product at all costs I see this situation getting much worse alot of assholes out there and it only takes one. If you have to put down another twenty for an extra key its money well spent. what game have you ever spent twenty bucks on and played 1,000,000,000 hours, should be a fifty dollar game in the first place.

There are no twenty dollar games out there I've logged more than 200 hours on. The ones I have 4 and 500 hours on are all 50 bucks.

Anyway, since this game technically isn't an huge online multiplayer, I guess there's no way to prevent a player from entering a name that is already in use by another player. And in response to Clax: Sounds like a good idea, but what if you have two games up at once on two seperate computers? I do that occasionally when I'm modding. Not a big deal, so I think your idea would work except that I don't know that this game could have the resources to carry it out.

I ran into CZK tonight. first he tried to tell me that demos could be lights now. He likes to play dumb but when I asked him flat out he said he got it off the net and gave it to two other players (triv was one) He stole the code and is not in the least sorry he did.

Heck, I only have one computer that TT works on anyway, no big deal for me. That ------- CZK! Grab his registration # and kill it! LC50 you have the one he was handing out, right? Sigh. I would pay more than 50$ for a game like this.

Go Bravetree!

Just an update: Yesterday I emailed Joe the full-sized screen grab with CZK's full reg key. Hopefully, it's only a matter of time before CZK (and everyone else with that shared reg key) get what they deserve.
