Ok, what's with the soundeffects ?

Nine out of ten times now when I play Orbz I get one or several "sets" of sound muted (or just lacking). Most often when I start Orbz, I can hear when I click in the menus, I can hear backgroundmusic and everything else which can be heard whilst at the menus.

But when the game begins, the problems begins...
Most of the times, I can hear the countdown ok, I can still hear the backgroundmusic and usually also the sound BOTH when you PICK UP a POWERUP AND when you USE it. I can also hear the effects when other players activates "global" powerups (curse, f.freezer, teleporter etc.) and when they say a taunt with the numberkeys. BUT the sound when you shoot away your orb AND when you hit stars is gone ! Also the sound when purple stars appear is gone.

The ONLY - and mark the word 'O N L Y' - way to fix this problem is by rebooting the computer (AND NOT DO A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G ELSE IN WINDOWS BEFORE STARTING ORBZ) !
If I start Orbz right away, I usually get all the sounds and effects, but when I've done something else in Windows before starting Orbz (played other games, watched movies etc.) - that's when the problem begins.

It has also happened that sounds dissapear after a while. I can play like two or three games in Orbz with only shooting and hitting sounds lacking, and then suddenly both countdown effects and powerup-effects can dissapear... It's fine at first but sounds dissapear along the way. This is a VERY annoying problem since I wanna hear EVERYTHING and I do NOT want to reboot my computer before every time I play Orbz.

(If you even have to ask; --- YES, the soundeffects ARE active in setup !!!)

Thanks in beforehand for someones help !!!

Ok, I've just purchased a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS and I have NOT experienced the above problem since. There just might be a bug or incompatability between Orbz and the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard. I have not made ANY changes to any settings in Orbz nor in Windows since I had the older soundcard.

Michael,

Good to hear that the new card is working for you. I actually own a Santa Cruz and never had any trouble with it during development of Orbz, so if there is some sort of compatibility the only thing I can think of is lack of updated drivers. Did you update your drivers as part of your attempts to get the sounds to work correctly before getting the new card?

Yes, the drivers were updated. You see, I have this little "thing" I do once every month - I defrag my computer, I run a ScanDisk and I have a "link-list" with all relevant card-manufacturers for my computer which I go through, checking/updating all available drivers. This I do on the first in every month.

As I wrote, I might have been doing other things first, like surfing the net, playing some other game, messing around with a few progs (like Photoshop, D-Tools and similar) and during those operations, the sound has been fine - working just as it should. But when I fire up Orbz, those above mentioned soundeffects are vanished. And to get them back I've had to restart my computer and done nothing else after startup but to play Orbz - and even then, as also stated, the sound might have been fine for the first 5 - 10 matches and after that, effects are starting to disappear. And these changes you can actually notice from match to match.

I have no clue of what could've been causing this abnormal behaviour with my soundcard - I have had no other programs interfering and made no changes to any settings or files within Orbz. It smells like a tiny little mystery to me. (But if noone else is complaining or mentioning it, it might at least not be a very spread problem.)
