Advanced physics possible?

Hi, im trying to gather information regarding more advanced physics in regards to flight.
From what ive seen so far there is a flyingVehicle datablock that you add to your game, does this use actual physics and how customisable is it, so fr all i can find is "jet fighter" style examples, is this what its aimed at?
If i wanted to manually add forces in certain directions or at certain positions on a model, is this possible?
Also, can the wind emitter effect the flyingVehicle, or can be made to?
Thanks
Andy
