There should be a game contest here

I know there is the IDG, but it seems like as a community we could do more to educate and encourage ourselves. The editors of GG should organize a contest and get companies to offer prizes as motivation. You would have to register to enter and I'm sure you can imagine the rest. I would be interested to see what we can do as a community.

Great idea. One thing I learned about participating in the IGF contest is that contests are great motivators.

Idea is good. I just think that contest should be somehow wisely defined so that it would encourage to come up with *small* and fun games.

One of the GG stuff once tried people to encourage to come up with small games with low/non-existant production costs to be distributed online for free. I'm afraid his words got lost because he said them in the middle of some fairly hot flaminng thread. Contest would be nice motivation engine for this, I think.

Also maybe at some point, when there are more games published by GG, it would be cool to hold a contest for best MOD of any of the GG published games.
Kind of lower entrance barrier, because participants would be using existing framework. Also, the company who's game has got the best mod, should get some motivation award - it would encourage people to make their games more accessible to modders, which (IMHO) always helps sales and community building.

Just my two cents.

A contest is a nice idea, and it would cause people to concentrate on simple games instead of big world-changing games that they'll never finish.
