Portfolio organisation question?

by Sean Brady · in General Discussion · 03/31/2012 (9:48 am) · 2 replies

I am currently creating a graphics programming portfolio using C and opengl. I am also implementing similar examples in java and c# with xaml. Choosing these various technologies in my view widens the spectrum of possible domains of employment. Is this collection (all three) of tech a good way to go? Is it worth it creating the same of examples in each tech or should the skills be shown in one?

Any advice or critiques can help.

Cheers.

Sean, I used to say this to my students, your portfolio should be about your body of work. Your resume is about your individual skills/technical experience. If your body of work requires multiple technologies to show it off then by all means use them. If you just want to show that you can do your work in multiple technologies then I would recommend you add that bit of knowledge to your resume and focus on just showing off your best "body of work" in your portfolio. Use the tech that looks and works best (we all have our stronger skill sets and we all favor one thing or another). Include the fact that you can do the same thing using another tech within your resume. Just my two cents.

Good luck!

Cheers for info. I was doing the wrong thing, worrying about domain knowledge too much with little productivity due to just studying. Really cleared up the issue. Thanks...
