Looking for a good book on Terrain

by John (Pole) Owen · in General Discussion · 01/28/2012 (12:26 pm) · 3 replies

I am looking for a good book on designing, creating, and texturing terrain.

We are using a third party program to assist in generating some of our terrain, and while reading up on the program I came across some very interesting tutorials and such, but I would actually like to dive deeper into the process.

Does anyone know of any good reads?  I would like to learn a bit more of the theory, processes, tools, and terminology. I know no one book will never cover EVERYTHING but I am looking for a good jump-off point.

Let me know if you have any suggestions and thanks!

There are several good short articles spread throughout the Game Programming Gems series. Also, Focus On: 3D Terrain Programming is ok and it's short and to the point.

Additionally, search the interverse for articles on ROAM and other terrain rendering algorithms.
