2d game development not good enough?

I am just wondering if someone who creates a complete 3d game is perceived to be better than a developer who sticks with 2d? Or is it all about the game rather than the technology? I am a retro fiend so I had to ask.

That should make any 2D project you're working on look so much better :)

Here's an example of piss-poor 3D:

Actually working on text-based and arcade type 2d games. Won't satisfy the instant gratification group of today but someone will enjoy, niche markets and all. Thanks again.

Thanks for reference shot, I have always been a retro gamer (old school 2D games) but I was just concerned about not satisfying people with most fantastic looking 3d visuals but it all comes down to the calibre of the developer rather than the technology in the end.Actually working on text-based and arcade type 2d games. Chris J.'s Cavorite is doing pretty well on iOS, and not bad on the MAS. He's got Cavorite 2 in beta, so 2D pixellated goodness is not dead.

Cavorite's looks retro all over, nice one. That definitely provides inspiration and hope. Thanks.

If you're looking to impress employers, it all depends on the position they're trying to fill. If you want a job at Zynga or another company that does mostly 2D game, then sticking with 2D may even be an advantage.
But if you're just what to be better in general, learn Quaternion algebra. ;)

I initially meant in terms of the employer but in general is always on the cards.
"If you're looking to impress employers, it all depends on the position they're trying to fill." - I can't believe I didn't even realise this. A bit of common sense would have helped me.
Thanks for info.

In all seriousness, anyone with a point of view that looks down on another person's skills (regardless of the profession), is a tool.
