Hello,
I have recently started and plan for a 3d western open world shooter mmo. I wouldn't go so far as to call it sandbox as you wont be able to build structures or anything like that.
Plan so far:
Ability to buy Homes and ranches
The ability to breed horses
Horses will grow old and die
The ability to craft gun's and clothing and meals etc
You will be able to chop down tree's, mine for iron, plant crop's
There wont be any classes or factions but there will be a reputation bar. If you kill someone you will gain reputation on the OUTLAW side and NPC sheriffs will shoot you if you enter town's. If you kill outlaw's and do other lawful thing's you will gain reputation on the LAWFUL side. Outlaws will gain bounty's on there heads.
After you kill something you can skin it.
The ability to mount horses.
There will be no levels! There will be skills like "Rifle, pistol, melee, clothing crafting, weapon crafting, farming, riding etc. Maybe body stats like agility strength charisma intelligence.
If you die you will lose everything however there will be chests and banks to keep valuables in.
Bank's can be robbed!
Player made missions: The ability to post a mission on a bulletin board in town. Example: Bring 10 horses to town and sell them to "joe bob"
You will have to drink and eat to survive! however newbies will get a 48 hour invincibility which includes not needing to drink and eat.
There will be so much more! these are just some of the thing's that sound the most interesting to me :)
If you have any idea's please email me.
Anyway now to the point :)
I need lot's of help but I don't have lot's of money.
I can handle things like interface and the mapping.

I need 3D modelers!! This is the biggest thing I have problems with. I can't make a nice looking module for the life of me :D
If you have any other talent like writing, making music, Making art for the cover or main menu Please feel free to Email me.

I will most likely not be able to pay you "unless it's really cheap"
HOWEVER after release you will be paid for all your hard work.

@Kyle: As a bit of advice, I'd hold off on the artwork until you've gotten a lot of the gameplay scripting done (really- a game that is fun will still be fun with "programmer art" in it). The reason I say that is because artists get bored easily if they're waiting for tasks, and they'll bolt if they don't see tangible progress on both the content and code parts of the project (and it's very hard to manage a team, even if you do have that progress).

I've written a big thread about making MMOs with Torque (or anything, or any genre, really), and I think you should check it out to see some of the "better practices" and resource threads linked in the comments section. Remember, the hardest part of developing this kind of project is the content (the harder part is after launch- managing it as a service, because that's what it is).

Thank's I agree with you. I read your whole Making a mmo thread and Im going to follow it. I just had this idea and I can see it in my head and I just have to get it made :). The problem is I have hardly any coding experience. Pretty much the only thing I can do is make nice looking interfaces, advertise and make websites. I'm taking your advice and drawing all my plans out.
