Some ideas for Bravetree (Now that there back)
by Nathan · in ThinkTanks · 09/16/2003 (1:56 pm) · 15 replies
I got this list of some usefull updates, some my own, some others:
Spectator Mode
Specify max players in server (Without editing prefs.cs)
Get -z-'s CTF scoring script :)
Player's ability to submit skins into a future version, so others can see them
And I'm not sure how, but on some games (I'll use Freelancer, I played it at a friends house)
everybody can see other's mods, be it texture or weapon mods.
How? I don't know.
That would be a good idea, so I can show off my snow tex mods, without ppl having to dload them. (I'm still proud of those :))

Submiting skins would make the game more interesting and would prolong the games life people are still playing unreal tournament and downloading skins..

Individualized skins would be nice. But I can live without if need be.
CTF script.. definately! Would like to see it a server option and maybe a persistant CTF homeland server.

Nathan good ideas. We have an uprade suggestion thread back a page. Cant we get all thoughts on one thread.
Having one thread. one specific idea, is one thing. A suggestion thread should remain just that and not be duplicated.
Leagues too. Meaning each league having one thread.
Help guys. K?

CTF is a good idea but as inplemented it is very, very boring. Folks just sitting inside their forts waiting for the other team to rush them. How about just scoring time of possession, time for holding onto the ball? That would tanslate easily into both individual and team modes.
It would also be nice to be able to boot obstreporous players from games, perhaps a "vote off" option. Not infrequently a spoiler will enter a game and intentionally skew the outcome.
I also wish to reintroduce my scoring suggestion: kill somone with more points than you gain 2; equal points gain 1; less points gain zero.
I support both releasing a terrain editor (free or other) and isolating mods in a separate server set. The idea of permitting moded tanks makes me uncomfortable. I have watched how much trouble, and expense, there has been in keeping cheaters with mods from upseting the balance of the Diablo series, for instance. At one p[oint they very nearly killed the product. If you do release a tank editor you really must hang a front end filter onto the engine to detect tanks that have been moded outside the base parameters and either dump them from the game or at least alert the other players. Cheating is less profitable if everyone in the game know that you are cheating. Perhaps a a front end normalizing routine that would deskew a moded tank
As for game revisions, altering weapon's ranges could aleviate some of the imbalance in weapons platforms. I haven't seen the code so I don't know how you are generating projectile range, I'm assuming gravity and velocity, but setting the range ratios to something like 11:17:19 (L:M:H) might balance out the tanks a bit more. If you are using velocity then I would think it would be siimple enough to give each tank a different projective velocity. But then I haven't seen the code have I.
Next, it might be nice to crank the masses of all of the tanks up by a factor of ten or even a hundred. That might reduce some of the mv^2 anomolies.
And lastly, a question, do collisions generate damage?

How about a server "meeting room" so that wse could arrange matches and games in a slightly more organized fashion?CTF is a good idea but as inplemented it is very, very boring. Nathan, i agree with you on everything except that i think that you should be able to choose whether you can see skins or not in game. Either that or have special show-off servers.*

I think a parental option on the skins would be a great idea. Would rather my kids play with the stock art being displayed.

Alex (SA)- think real hard

Also, how about a chat so u can contact people from a server to another or from the lobby. Alex (SA)- think real hard

You want to chat to PlayerX, but you don't want PlayerA to hear.
Type this:
PlayerX: "Hey there, blah, blah"
PM's would show in green on the chat screen.

Oh. Just got another: The ability to PM during a game. It would work something like this:You want to chat to PlayerX, but you don't want PlayerA to hear.
Type this:
PlayerX: "Hey there, blah, blah"
PM's would show in green on the chat screen.

Ignore would be nice too.

@slugthog.. your version would turn CTF into keep away. -z- had the script working that way at one time.. it was basically battlemode for scrum possession.. no team work, no point, no fun at all.Ignore would be nice too.

I see your point Chris. Though Team Keep Away does have a certain appeal.
On the other hand, the current implementation of CTF is terribly dull. Although -z-'s Argonne Forest like map mod is quite good CTF needs something to make it more interesting.
1. I don't know, maybe team specific communication. That would allow the attacking team some privacy in order to plan their assault.
2. Maybe larger team size so that put us in a Kursk-like conflict and make the conflict more fluid.
3. Perhaps increasing the size of each team's base with a smaller no-tank's land coupled with some scoring changes, a slower clock for instance. Something like a point for bringing home the bacon then another point for each subsequent (less than or equal) minute or 15 seconds.
4. Respawning the flag in no-tank's land upon eliminaton of the flag carrier (this would promote passing the flag from player to player)
The thing is, I really want to like CTF, it's my favorite in Unreal for instance, but it just isn't ripe yet. It needs something to spice it up - maybe a little paprika.

(I know this belongs in another thread - give an old far...guy a break, huh)

But like ive said before about the skins pure horror if we could see them all I am not for seeing 30 different tanks. Needs to be a contest take top 20 make um downloads maybe a few more from bravetree. I guess 1 server where you could see everyones would be cool.

Or a very needed "Bad Word filter"
-Z-
Personally I like all the tanks looking the same. It makes them easy to identify. If they are all various shades of disgusting or bright colours, it would be chaos trying to spot what tanks were and also trying to focus on their name badge to see which team they were in.
