Orthographic side view skybox

I noticed in T3D 1.1 the skypebox in the orthographic views looks ok. And if I remember correctly at one point that wasn't the case. We have a build that is pretty customized and has been upgraded to the latest version, but we may have missed something, because in our side view it is just black with no sky. I was looking at it in the South Pacific demo.
Also we have our own camera & viewport system and in there it is a tiny box. This makes sense of course given it is orthographic, but I was wondering how you got it to look better in the south pacific demo. Where in the code would I find the change to look if it is orthographic and render it a bit different?
Note: guess what I am getting happens if I create a new project from scratch and use the default mission with a changed skybox texture.
PS: I guess I sort of figured it out. It uses clouds and scatter sky. So in all builds of torque if you use a skypebox it renders odd in the side view. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this or even better some code that would be awesome!
