Wild West RPG

Why aren't there any Wild West RPG's or FPS' for that matter? Is that subject really that unpopular? Just imagine what you could do in an RPG...different races (whites, native americans, blacks, hispanics), huge range of different terrains, dungeons in the form of abandoned gold and silver mines or old native american caves and burial grounds, monsters in the form of ghosts and spirits or just plain wild animals like bears etc...
I enjoy playing Morrowind alot and I think if it would be fashioned like that with a dense political background it could be a lot of fun...you could have npc's in the game react different to you depending what race you choose and have a powerstructure in place that you could influence through your actions. I'm just a graphic designer so I have no idea what would be involved on the programming side, but i don't think it's impossible...i even thought of using the editor that came with morrowind and just making a total conversion but there's the problem that it's all magic based and i wouldn't know how to make guns in the editor.

That sounds fine.

And it doesn't sound impossible.

Howdy Michael, those projects John linked to all seem to be dead and gone. However, there is a Torque-based Wild West RPG in active development, it's called Badlands: Range War.

Our game hasn't been 'officially' announced at GG, since we only finished our last project earlier this summer. So, Range War is still pretty early in development. But our team is solid and we have several previous releases under our belt, so I'm confident this game will become exactly what we want it to be.

I emailed you more details about the game, but my email server's been acting up. So if you didn't get anything, just let me know, and I'd be happy to try again or just post the info here.

@Micheal - Ok trying the new email address. Hope it works. :-)

@Joshua - Howdy from a GG n00b! Glad to hear there's a bit of interest in the Old West! So, is this project the same as the one mentioned on your site? That sounds pretty cool! We're going for a bit more traditional, focused approach I guess you could say. We're also going for a single-player RPG, not a multi-player game as it seems you are.

The Western Horror idea does sound interesting though and I certainly wish you luck. The more attention this genre receives the better for us all. (But not too much, I hope the Old West doesn't become the next WWII.) In any case, interested to see how your game progresses, the best of luck, and if therre's anything you think we should collaborate on, just ask!
