The mod thing is getting out of hand (IMO) last few days no one seems to be playing the
base servers. Sorry to whine but I haven't seen a mod that is anything but a 10 sec Wow.
None of them actually seem to improve the game. Wingman should just change the name
of his to AirWar, sure he improved the specs on the tanks but spending all you time air born
dosn't let you use it. -Z- just seems to be having fun playing god and changing things on a whim.
The threads are now mostly "how do I change this or that" or "How do I cheat" Maybe I'm just old
but this doesn't look like a good trend. It won't be long before real cheating starts and then it's over.
The basics are great, tanks, powerups, scrum, new maps would be nice to help satisfy the "new"
craving that seems to out there.
The skin mods are ok since for now it only effects you on your local machine, I would like to see
the ability to have custom skins in game for everyone to see (Hint, Hint).
My rant

BTW are the shockwave servers being tweaked again? play seemed a little odd. Things like the scrum
spawning in the same place 4 or 5 times in a row or bouncing a lot with real high bounces after spawning.
edit: I bought the game May 1 after about a weeks demo, so I have
been around for awhile, not just a newbie bitching.

If the real developers would get on the ball we wouldn't have to hack the game....its been almost a year and i haven't seen any real changes till gamers begain taking things into there own hands.

In those 5 months they've rolled the game out on 2 more platforms (Windows and Linux), reworked much of the game based on feedback from the community AND have moved their office location.
I think they deserve a couple weeks of vacation.

Just a clarification. Think Tanks released on the Mac (it's first platform) in April of 2003. That means the game has been out for only 5 months at the most. Did you try copying out the .oggs with the same name as my .wav files and
letting your mac just use the .wavs?

@All - we are paying attention (ok, I check the forums less than Joe, but I still read them to keep abreast of the community). We are not responding a lot for a number of reasons. #1 for me is that I'm still in build hell. We're trying to get ThinkTanks out to as many portals as possible so that we can have the most freedom to develop future versions of ThinkTanks and future games. But also, we don't want to say too much because we don't want to give false promises. Expect more from us, but know that we are fighting battles on many fronts. But we definitely appreciate the dedicated community. It makes our day.

This is unfair to the developers. It has not been almost a year as ThinkTanks just arrived at the end of April this year. We still have 4 months to the end of 2003. Also, they have released a few significant changes, the latest of which caused all sorts of varied responses.
As to the mods, I agree with Brandt that they are mostly useless and probably do more to confuse new players and demos than not. I wish people had kept modding to themselves until at least demos could have been kept out of modded areas so they could at least get a fair demo of the game before being inundated by wacky tank physics and putrid color schemes.
I may pop in for a look-see, but I just prefer the regular levels for the time being. I look forward to whatever Bravetree has time to bring us officially, whether it be more ThinkTanks or a whole new game entirely.

-Michael an editor for the demos (well keeping them off of the edited servers anywy)

Well a way to prevent the demos from getting into the modded games, you could just make it a team game (scrum or battle mode)and that will keep them out. I also agree, if i could have played all of the modded levels when i was a demo i definantly would have not bought it, why buy it to play all the levels you couldnt when you were a demo when you can play levels that are built for fun and not just competition. Isnt that what most people are editing them for? For more fun? Well i think if you want more fun cough up $19.95 and support the game you love to play, but cant get the full experience, thats what made me buy it. So to sum it up if you are going to do it fine, but if you do make it a team game so demos cant play and ruin it.-Michael an editor for the demos (well keeping them off of the edited servers anywy)

I disagree if i was a demo and I saw more options in gameplay, that I could make maps and Launch my own game I would be more likely to buy the game for 3X the price. Bad maps will always filter out and not be played quality maps would stay around. I dont know about all this different speed stuff I like the speed the way it is we are in tanks i just want to edit terrain and objects with out crunching numbers realy not that much to ask. Maybe in the next year or so? THE CLASSIC LUSH MAPS WILL NEVER DIE

FP's map Sunset Peak is interesting, but too big to be playable. Plus I can't stand the goals in the air. I mean, get real. It's hard enough to score when they are on the ground! =)
His CTF map is something - I can only applaud its ingenious design - especially the fort building.
Simplicity, Fp, go for simplicity.
What the designer need to do in regard to CTF is to build it in-game - i.e. times counting while the ball is in your camp. that is the only script missing to revolutionize this game (hint to scripters out there).
Wingman settings are interesting. I don't know about play balance. Lights still are the best on this map. I played a few games. Dizzying.
-Z- went overboard in his creativity. I mean, you got to try the 'Heavenly Ride' (or was it the Ramp?)... 'Riding on the clouds' took a new meaning there! It's fun, fun, but you don't play scrum there, you 'ride the rides', and that was what -z- intended (methink).
Other scripts like timers are just side improvement.
As to the skins they are harmless, and very cool for those using them. Some designs are very well done.
TD sound Mod seem to be much appreciated by those using it as well.
All in all, the maps and mods are all optional. The game's basics stull are all there.
FYI I don't use any skins or Mod yet... No time, no real interest. I wish the skin could be for my tank only - every tank with its custom skin. then I will use some skins. Otherwise, we'll see, if I take the time, in a few weeks mb. I like the game as is. However I do like the work being done, and can only congratulate those doing it.
IMOHO, nothing yet can beat the classic Team Scrum (Lush).

I think it'a awesome that the creativty is flowing in this communauty. Most games have editors and this usually prolongs the game's life.
