Rigging question (Multiobject rigging)

I am test rigging a bat, and am trying to keep the wing membranes and wing limbs as separate pieces
Has anyone ever rigged multiple parts to a character before? If I combine them and give their verts influence from the same joint will this be pretty effective? If anyone knows a tutorial that covers this could they lemme know ? Thanks a lot its appreciated.

If you are using Maya or 3ds max there are well documented tutorials if you google around to see what skin is affected by what bone and restrict the deformation caused by the bone to only specific areas.
