Advise... Buying TGB Adventure Kit...

I am trying to learn TorqueScript and without an open source game to poke through (the best way I learn) I'm finding it pretty hard to grasp the complex concepts.
My question is...
Should I purchase the TGB Adventure Kit and look at those scripts in order to get a good handle on a complete (semi-complete) set of scripts to get the overall picture?
The game I'm ultimately trying to create is simple, nothing at all like the TGB Adventure Kit, it is actually a simple thumb tapping game where you press one button and choose a target.
Would this script be a good start for a beginner to TS to get the concept of splash screens, GUI, behaviors, etc. The tutorials are nice, they just don't show the entire picture, or the whole game in tact. If not. Do you know of an open source game built with TS that is relevant to iTorque or TGB 2d?
Thanks!
