Torque 2D is this all I need?

by Aaron Czarnecki · in General Discussion · 05/23/2011 (6:23 pm) · 4 replies

Hello quick question ( I'm a teacher gearing up to implement this into my high school classroom) I will call rep tomorrow but for now maybe user forms can help.

1: If I buy Torque 2D will that be enough to get students up and running with the basics of the Torque Engine?

2: Are their any great books for ULTRA beginners? I personally don't know anything about Torque coding. I am good with HTML & CSS code only.

3: How hard is it to get up and running, so that students can play their games without getting board quickly or saying this is too complicated?

Thanks,

Aaron

I think T2D might not be suitable for high school level IMHO (or even people with no programming background), unless your students had exposure to BASIC-like languages. You could take a look at DarkBASIC or GameMaker if they have zero experience in programming.

Thanks for your input. We are currently working with GameMaker in which students enjoy it but, after a while go tired of the 2D poor graphics and capabilities it offers. Going to Torque I feel is a better upgrade than Game Maker and offers more flexible options but, it's the coding that sorta scares me.

Ah, I see. Well, DarkBASIC might not be up your alley then. Have you tried the Torque 2D 30-day demo? It might be better to try it out first before investing in Torque 2D. =)
