3D sound emitter not stopping sound

Using a sound emitter, I can get a soundtrack to loop in a designated area. thats fine. I can even get the sound to delay playing by editing the fadeInTime field, but i can't get the emitter to stop looping the track when I leave the designated area.
has anyone had this issue? or know how to fix it, which would be even better.
