Dedicated or slashdot style moderation in all the forums would be good (give mod points to the sdk owners). Filters, need those filters to weed out specific game forums from showing up all together.

Lol, well, ok, then I'll post here. I still can't see that I was insulting people:
Quote:
Erm, well, sorry to drop in, but is there any way you can open up a seperate website with submission form or something, Azazel?!? does this really have to be done here on GG? i know this is the ThinkTanks-forum, but I'd prefer to see "things like this" done on a seperate website for not "spamming" the "Latest 5 threads" on the right side. ThinkTanks is taking over.
What's insulting about this?!?
I don't really see the need for moderated forums, I think the Games-forums should be seperated from the Developers-forums, or the forums should be made subscribable, since I personally am not at all interested in any of the games sold here. (And No, I am not jealous on Bravetree for having such great success with their game, I am just not interested in ThinkTanks!) (Sorry, Bravetrees :P)

Sakilrif, needs to be suspended. Speed and Meth makes you post a lot. ;)

Yip, I know it is not your "fault"! I was just asking if you could do this on another website, because I personally registered with GG back when it was "only" a developer meeting place (and because it was only that) and now things seem to go for a ThinkTanks only forum or so. I didn't see the need for everybody playing ThinkTanks posting their names. Sorry for that, of course you can do (nearly) whatever you wish in the forums, but I personally would prefer it if you would get a website (free or not), set up a forum and post stuff like a "player's list" there.
Didn't want to insult you! Or anybody of this evergrowing ThinkTanks community.

Btw, deleted my "OT"-post in "your" TT-forum post ... don't know why I should, I too can post (nearly) whereever and whatever I want. :P Could you please in return teach the TT-community to read the forums-topics before they start posting in the GG-forums?? :P *joking*

Well, this here is kind of "clash" which was predictable. Both Azazel and Zappe have their points - Azazel is here because of the products he likes and Zappe is here because of developer resources.

Azazel, please do understand Zappe (and many others) - Garagegames from the very beggining was the place for developers to come together, form teams and pool resources. We were dreaming that Garagegames would become a popular distribution portal for our games one day, but now that it has happened (thanks to people like you), it is obvious that these two worlds - developers' and customers' dont live well so close together.

GarageGames should separate these two more. There have been suggestions in Feedback section, but nothing has changed (my guess is that GG guys have full hands right now and cant address the issue).

Now, I DONT think you should create separate website. Think Tanks forums are perfect place for all your topics. Right now GG people should take the action and redesign the portal. Lets hope they can find time.

I hope these clashes will not grow larger. After all, as developers we need customers and pissing in the well which might as well suport us financially later sounds like a VERY bad idea.

@Azazel: I know I wasn't the guy you were talking about ! ;)
Only because you're a MacGuy wouldn't hinder you to set up a website, there are a lot of freely available forum-"applications" out there, like phpBB. (You need PHP/mysql on your webspace). Even a MacGuy could set this up ! ;P

@Nauris: Could you at least call me Mr. Zappe ??? :P

And yes, seperating the forums has been demanded a lot of times, can't wait for the next site update!! (*hopes*)

Comments from the GG Evangelist

@Azezel - Thanks for your willingness to contribute and your desire to see the community taken to a more productive level. The growth and 'enthusiasm' for TT is creating greater opportunities for growth in GG's and BT's abibility to facilitate community. We love the fan sites, leagues, armies, ladders and good natured competition that is evolving. Right now we're not set up for moderating, but I would encourage all the regular players that are posting on the forums to consider hanging out in the #ThinkTanks channel on irc.maxgaming.net so that some of the banter can be real time and reduce some of the less important forum posts.

@NfoCipher / Alex - The GG team is highly aware of the need to revamp the features of the forums - subscribing, moderation systems and even separating the game & dev. forums are all under consideration in our redesign.

@Nauris - Your absolutely right we do have our hands full and if we could just 'separate' the forums without a major overhaul of the forums it would have been done by now.

I will say, not all of us agree that separating the gaming forums is totally a good idea - we think developers hanging out with the players, learning from the support issues, community building challenges, player feedback and real time R&D that BraveTree is enjoying from their enthusiastic fans is important to every indie developer. Building buzz and having an active community is a 'problem' we should all look to foster and find ways to create around our games.

@All - Thank you players and developers for being such a great community - in nearly every presentation I make and interview we do the quality of our community is one of the things we point to as a measure of our success (we're still just 6 guys in an office very like a garage) - none of us take your willingness to welcome new community members and contribute your time and efforts to GG for granted.

As far as this minor culture clash and the signal to noise ratio concern we hope we can all live together a bit longer until we can re-roll our forums with the update we all would like to have done.

FYI - If we have 1/2 the things ready to ShowOFF at IGC that we're working hard to get ready I think it will be obvious what the GG team has been up to.

We plan on publishing with GarageGames Azazel, do you recommend someone else? Are they not the best company that can deal with an indie developer provide the technology, and even distribute the game? If you can think of a better publisher, hit me up.. I would rather pay the 10k liscence and get things done right.

It is BraveTree's IRC channel.
And posting on a forum is chatting. So you do "sit and chat, pal"

"Your asking me to moderate your forms"

Looks to me like you were the one asking to be made a moderator of the forums... Not the other way around.

And I will agree with Jay on not wanting to have a total seperation of the game / development forums. But what we have now is the day to day idle chatter of a single developing community overtaking a forum system setup to support many different communities.

As for the disjointed personal attack on Jay... Some things don't belong on forums, that was one of them.

And since you are not a member of the GarageGames development community you are a bit out of the loop on some information. GarageGames nor Jay Moore provide ANY marketing for specific games published here (unless contracted to do so with a seperate contract agreement). Marketing and Marketing contracts are up to each individual developer to develop and maintain.

Exited ?
I'm willing to bet, seeing as I know Harold, that he's played Marble Blast.
You may have been one of the first Think Tank players, but we've been here for a long time. We know Joe, we can talk to him in realtime (when he's not on vacation at least) when the mood strikes us.
And its not Jay's community. Last time I checked, we predate Jay also. Besides, a community doesn't have a leader, they just have people they look to for help and guidance when they feel they need it.
The Think Tank community is not GarageGames responsibility really. Its BraveTree's.
Back when Publishers didn't own thier Game Developers, I would never have visited Interplay's forums on Westwood games they published. I wouldn't have gone to EA for Maxis information (even now I dont). I dont go to Infogrames for Master of Orion 3 or Neverwinter Nights info. I go to the Developers Site. (Although in the case of Master Of Orion 3, Atari hosts the forums, but Quicksilver actually moderates and runs them)
While I dont know the particulars of GarageGames deals with Bravetree and 21-6 Productions, I do know that running a community is not part of the usual deals between Publisher and Developer.

I've talked to and know the BraveTree guys, but really, your beef is with them, not Jay, or GarageGames, or anyone else. If what they do is not enough for you, then talk to them.

"i was responding to jay and i discussing some things on the phone"

Then you should have called Jay back up and responded on the phone.

Besides... your post said mail.... was it E-Mail... was it phone? I don't care. It was a private personal issue and should have stayed as such.

"Hey, harold you might want to get Marble Blast before ya post. Its got a few extra scripts with a one for humility"

Sorry... looked and I couldn't find humility.cs... are you sure that's not in Marble Blast Gold?

"You know Jay you have the rudest people of any community I've ever seen"

You've never been to the TribalWar forums.

You tell me I should be humble and that I'm rude? Well what the hell do you think your post I replied to was? You attack Jay, GarageGames and Bravetree. You insult the community. You threaten them with "getting retailers to pull product". I'm not sure any of us could get any ruder or less humble.

He either deleted the post, or someone did it for him. My guess is this entire thread will go away pretty soon.
