Getting a crash in MMDevApi.dll - help! (Updated with solution)

All,
I just installed Torque 3 professional. I have updated my drivers and I am still having the problem. I am running 64 bit windows 7 with ATI Radon 5500s (two running in crossfire).
From the Torque toolbox, I can play the game using the "Play in Web" option. The World Editor, Play Game, and Gui editors all cause crashes. I cannot find a crash log but I get the following from the windows event viewer:
Faulting application name: FPS Example.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4ad5a676
Faulting module name: MMDevApi.dll, version: 6.1.7600.16385, time stamp: 0x4a5bda29
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00018c7d
Faulting process id: 0x3b0
Faulting application start time: 0x01cbfa5ba5cd2f57
Faulting application path: C:TorqueTorque 3D 2009 SDK 1.0.1ExamplesFPS ExamplegameFPS Example.exe
Faulting module path: C:WindowsSystem32MMDevApi.dll
Report Id: e6169e9b-664e-11e0-84c4-bcaec534c56b
Any ideas?
I am rather fustrated as I have spent hours trying to fix this.
