What are reasonable costs for a set of sprites and a few static images?

An iPad game I'm in the middle of working on is going to need some artwork that is better than the scribbles I'm capable of. It doesn't need a lot - couple of background images, 4-10 frames of sprite animation, and a few static sprite sized images.

Want them to be relatively cartoony, but do have specific pixel sizes in mind as well. Would need all rights assigned to me.

Trying to get a feel for how much this is likely to run me, and where I should start looking for this type of work.

Dan.

The jobs section is a fine start to look for artists. You'll find posts by artists both here and there, but Jobs is the most relevant. There are also some artists on IRC you could talk to. They would know typical rates, and some might even be up for a bit of cartooniy art right now :)

Try afternoon or later average US time for best results.

The prices I've seen vary wildly, depending on where in the world the artists live. Example: A large page of concept art could cost $1000+ in western countries. Yes, frickin' concept art, stuff which shows if an artist is appropriate for your project, gets the idea etc. A sheet of 64 sprites could cost you as little as $100 from some Asian non-pros. Rates ranging from $10-$150 per hour, depending on part of world (Asia lowest, Europe highest).

Dan - step 1 for you is to create a detailed list of everything you need including logos, User Interfaces, buttons, etc.

Probably make it in excel or similar.

Then post it in the jobs section and ask for quotes.

Try the jobs forum at polycount.com - lots of good artists there.
