If Think Tanks Were Sim City (aka Terrain Editors)

It's AUGUST 29th, 3010AD

The People Demand a Terrain Editor!!

They would probably pay a special tax!!

Joe this seems to be the trend lately. The home spun modded maps are some of the more popular haunts.

Yikes, "how do you hack" is the chat line in vogue.

I think we'll probably be seeing some of the younger kiddo's with crashed apps soon.

Any help on the way for us 'still factory' guys?

I'd settle for a couple new maps:).

A couple quotes on other threads:

From Jason Richardson-
Quote:The map/gui editor is built into torque. Bravetree simply stripped it out. Mapping and custom guis are a breeze with the editors, so Id wait until version 1.2 to see if they will include them. They may even include the .cs files, and not just the .dso files, so custom scripts would be easier to pop out.

I already have custom models, objects, skies waiting for the editors if they get unlocked. Im too busy with other stuff right now to burn time on 'map hacking' as its called.

Foulplays map editing 'work around' is simple enough. Its a pain in the butt compared to the editor, but simple.

From Ward De Langhe-
Quote:Guys.... just download the Torque demo.... and make your maps using that.... then just change the filenames etc to suit the structure of the game (I don't have it so I wouldn't know). The info is available on the GG site. All we see here on GG the latest time is "HACKING!!!" , "HOW DO I HACK??!??".... let me tell you... you don't "HACK" a level. You design one with the editor. I can't believe someone charges money for info that is available.

Dork I thought those quotes were helpful. Sorta outlined what i suspected In everyday user friendly verbage, that didn't resemble a Blowfish algorithm .

Nor was my "Mad Magazine Guide to Big Fancy Wordz That Young Tech Tots Fancy" reference guide necessary.

The first is ok. the second a classic example of what you were refering to.. a belittling attempt by someone who does not own the game.

Hmm I disagree. The hacking questions have gotten to the point where people belittle themselves acting that way. He's just illustrating that and aluding to an easier and way more useful route.

Geez the hackers I know would make you a map and hack it in your tank folders while you were sleeping, from a computer somewhere south of Botswana. Probably charge $20 to your visa on the way out.

Futzing with text - editors is fine, but i'd rather use a phillips to remove a screw than a butterknife.

Quote:bad news bout pinacle river: computer crashed, data lost.
good news: im remaking it!

(Nathan Gibney I'm not picking on you) I think Ward is trying educate here to make it more fun for everyone.

Young talented people like NG would find that their creative abilities would flow a little smoother with the proper tools.

Am I the only one has used a friggin terrain editor? Maybe by some of the responses. I think if people knew what I was talking about they would post more positively here.

I think Ward said it right.

Yes Az.. the point is that it is a person who doesn't own the game.. obviously hasn't played the game, but feels his input is of a use to our tiny community without first bothering to determine if what he is suggesting is even possible... and yes.. belittling us by assuming that even though we are a subset of garagegames.. that most of us stumbled onto the game ascent the garagegames site and thus have no knowledge of the Torque engine, its capabilities, and its potential use in making levels for the game created by programmers using the engine who knew its capabilities and limitations and who obviously would know the potential and ease of us garagegamers to use the tool of creation for their game into designing our own maps and thus coded their game adversely.

Thats one long sentence dork :).......

........have you noticed on the front page of GG there's a box of most recent threads? Anything with hack in it is certainly going to get a developers attention.

How could they resist inputing & making life easier for someone trying to do what they do for a living?

Lol.. guess I could have used a period in there somewhere. It is as if I drew a long breath and let out a serious rant.

(gasp)

I apologize to any reader who passes out while reading my previous post from lack of oxygen.

Hypoxia,
an inadequate, reduced tension of cellular oxygen, charecterized by cyanosis, tachycardia, hypertension, peripheral vasoconstriction, dizziness, and mental confusion.

Look what you've done to our TT community!
There's enough mental confusion running rampant in these forums.

That was quite an all night discussion.
