If Think Tanks Were Sim City (aka Terrain Editors)

It's AUGUST 29th, 3010AD

The People Demand a Terrain Editor!!

They would probably pay a special tax!!

Joe this seems to be the trend lately. The home spun modded maps are some of the more popular haunts.

Yikes, "how do you hack" is the chat line in vogue.

I think we'll probably be seeing some of the younger kiddo's with crashed apps soon.

Any help on the way for us 'still factory' guys?

I'd settle for a couple new maps:).

Yeah I hope some will be floating outta Bravetree soon:)

I'm wondering how many players would shell out dinero for an editor?
Cost being reasonable I sure would.

Az

Hey if someone in Oregon could kick the ol' league server over to frantic that would be nice.

Im sure some player will curse me for that.... :P

With an editor the maps would be alot faster to make. doh!

IMHO, Your hacked snow level isnt very original Nathan.

Im not trying to flame you but it looks like a hack hacker job to me.

Don't get me wrong i like FP's maps and what he is doing. This enlight of a certain crowd of 'players' that are looking for new challenges map wise.

I think all your threads about 'look at my map' are a tad lame.
If you hate all those "how do you hack" questions ....well you started it.

Not seeing what a benifit a terrain editor makes just shows, in my mind, the lack of understanding of the reality of creating good maps.

Spending a week to only modify a current map I find a too laborius task for some of us with lives & busy schedules.

A map editor would certainly help unleash our creative abilities in a manner that would help expand the quality of game play.

It would de-centralize the process of creating new maps.

I can only hope that something is in the works.....Joe has been awfully quiet of late in the forums.

Bravetree is worried, based on previous posts that it will effect their new players and thus hurt sales.

Quote:ThinkTanks does not ship with the editors enabled. At some point in the future, we may open it up and release some tools for customiztion, but for now, we want to stick with what ships with the game so that we can ensure a consitent experience fgor new users.

Joe

I understand this.. but do not think it would hurt nearly as much if there was an "organized" method to make new levels instead of "edited" ones with no outside limitations.
Yes you will still have "edited" levels.. but those who are worth playing with will be on the "quality" levels. (no intention to down any of the current "edited" levels.. they are quality based on what you have to work with).

Then there is the long term benefit of keeping your game on the players pc (or mac/linux) longer since it is ever evolving.. thus keeping them telling friends and family, and making web sites to sport their skins and maps, each one spreading your game to different strands of the "web" through link and cross link to friends/business sites and forums.

Plus.. if one of the reasons is that you wanted your levels played first.. we have played them until no grass will grow on the Lush hills, the ghosts are scared to leave their boney lairs on Spooky and even the volcano refuses to explode on Frantic!

Good post TD!

Thats my whole point in this thread.

Consistency is understandable.

What with the Shockwave servers online now maybe the concerns are more addressed.

If the maps weren't great to begin with nobody would be playing. Hopefully we documented some thoughts of the devoted customers 4 months in - addicted to the game experience- for Bravetree to consider.

Joe?

This game was made using Torque, so you guys can just use the Torque editor I suppose. Comes free with the Torque demo.

Read it again Az.. I added more =)

Bravetree removed the editor from TT.
Only way to edit now is manipulation of the files by hand.

It would be great to hear a comment from the awsome Think Tanks developers on this topic in light of the new rash of editing.

Hey thanx Ward for the info!!

LOL Usually people from the indy developer board side of Garage Games come in insult us and leave. See my future thread over there about not insulting customers haha.

Tado, Joe sez 'not enabled'. Me thinks it may lie dormant.??
What I'm asking for is a possible new feature or companion app.

WHERE ARE THE DEVELOPERS?

Come on, it seems like Joe is not even reading the forums. I really want a map editor, i don't think it would hurt the "new player' experience. If you really think that is a problem you could make all new maps mandatory passworded, so new players wouldn't wander in. I would like a map editor even if you could only do quickplay in it. Any sort of map editor is good news for me. Please, developers. Maybe someone should email bravetree?

Note to Nathan and FoulPlay: Is hacking really hard or does it just take a long time? How exactly do you do it (sorry, but i gotta know)? How do you get rid of the fog?
