BVH to DSQ

by Paul Yoskowitz · in Artist Corner · 02/10/2011 (11:28 pm) · 11 replies

Is there a way to use BVH files with T3D or must they be converted to DSQ files? if they must be converted, how are people doin this?

I saw that BAG has an Animation package for sale, but i was looking ahead and tryin to make sure that all my bases are covered. I saw that BAG also had a software package called Ecstacy Motion, but it seems to still be in developement.

Suggestions?

You will have to convert your BVH files to DSQ's....no native BVH support in T3D.

The animation Mega Pack has BVH files converted to the ACK line of figures, as well as KORK, Gideon, Elf-sorceress, and any other standard 'Biped' rig.

Ecstasy Motion has just such a conversion functionality, retargetting sequences to a differing rig.

Id love to speak to someone about Ecstasy Motion and the Mega Pack. Do they work with T3D? Is EM ready or how can i get a BETA of it (or whatever stage it happens to be in now...)

I think they were workign out a deal to get it into the store here but then GG bought TP, so I would assume that process is to be restarted at some point.
(that statement of course, is pure assumption)

I haven't read anything about GG and BAG fighting, so hopefully they can get back in the store soon :)

blender i believe supports BVH (mocap Right?) and they have an exporter for dsq / dts. Also Carnegie university has a huge library of mocap for use

Wow, I would love to use ACK and the Ecstasy Motion program in our T3d game. I would buy it right now if someone would answer a few questions. I have read that the ACK models are not T3d ready. I keep reading here and on the BrokeAssGame site that they are almost ready but not yet. I have posted asking here before and no answer.

Will there be an ACK package that is ready for T3d? Or do I have to purchase the old one? If I get the old one and if it is updated to T3d, will I have to buy it all over again?

I would love to be able to provide some great character models and animations to my programmers and these look like an excellent solution. I just wish someone would tell me if a T3d version will actually exist in the near future. I did notice a forum on the BrokeAssGame website but I have to buy the ACK pack in order to have my questions answered. I can understand this but am hoping those of us wanting to make a purchase can be satisfied as well.

Ive posted here, on the BAG and the Ecstacy site with no answer except from Rex. Because of this, we have decided to go other routes to handle our needs. itll take longer, but we will know what we are getting.

How sad but I guess we will have to look at other options as well.

what are the needs you guys have for this ACK package ?
- I might step in here and complete what you guys want for T3D.

The ACK packages work with T3D if all you are after is the models and animations at this stage.
I believe the "Not ready for T3D" is more around the character customisation code etc that they provide as part of the package. There are scripts etc that needed porting.

I have the M.A.C.K. package and use the models/textures (modified for my project) but haven't delved into any of the customisation pieces yet. Will wait and see what comes to light when the T3D port actually happens as to whether I'll utlilise the char customisation stuff.

Thanks guys. We do need the character customization eventually since we are making a mini-MMO and will need a few different models. Of course, it will be a while before we get to that point.

What we actually need is a simple drop in character pack that will allow us to use a number of animations and either create or contract out a few specialized animations. Based on what I read about Ecstasy Motion, we could use bhv files with the ACK packs. We currently do not have anyone on our team that can create character models and animations so we are trying to find easy ways to do it ourselves. I do realize that we may need professional help for tweaks, but since like most indies, we are limited on budget and staff, anything that helps us save time and money is a good thing. :)
