Will torque3D source code compile on Linux?

by Brian Perry · in Torque 3D Beginner · 01/23/2011 (1:57 am) · 8 replies

Just curious to know if anyone that has the torque3D source code compiling on linux. I won't buy it unless someone has the source code compiling on linux. I don't have a lot of time to mess around with it myself.

    There is a resource on it here... but not looked at the source, it may just be a compiled server.

    so hopefully this will not stop you from buying it. There is no official linux support yet (but they are discussing it)

    Very possible.. although certain distros may require more wrenching than others.

    How to access SVN of T3D?

    GarageGames hasn't hosted a public SVN in many years. Download your SDK from your Account->My Products.

    @JulianR,
    I checked the first and that was just a dedicated server. I don't know how easy it would be to derive a client from this. I also checked the second link and found out that I couldn't access it. It said it had restricted access. I would consider using it for my Game development courses at DeVry for game and simluation programming but I need it to run on Ubuntu 10.10. Its possible that I could compile myself on Eclipse or Code::Blocks if all I needed were the correct libraries and dependencies and they were attainable through my distro's apt manager like the old torque. I just don't want to have to go through the trouble of checking all of the source code line by line to get it to compile.

    @Brian - sorry forgot that you need to have purchased T3D before you can read the forums. There are compiling instruction on the thread but as its a user generated project you would need to purchase T3D before trying to get it to work on your flavour of linux. Sorry I couldn't be much more help.

    I'm sure porting the client to linux will be a pretty massive task, however, once you purchase T3D you get TGEA and TGE both of which run clients on Linux i'm sure of it.

    I'm not really aware of anything else that might suit your needs based on what you describe. Most alternatives arent source distributions, and most open source options are either not 'complete game engines' or havent yet reached torques level of maturity.

    I was planning on using Panda3D. Its used by professional game studios and in big budget games done by Disney so I know that its capable. The only problem is that most of the tutorials are very sparse. I purchased the add-on for torque that allowed you to add resources to games visually. I think I can do my project easily in Panda3D but I was hoping torque may have more documentation that could help me. I already got the other torque clients you mentioned through school. Its strangely under another username the school gave me when I registered for the class. I wish I could connect my two torque accounts together.
