I'd like to see the return of combat football...

Blood Bowl was one of my favorite games. It was fun for playing, but building the team and setting up for plays was a big part of it too. Something along those lines would be great. some points of interest for the game:
1. 3D wise, we need an arena, about 22 players onfield, maybe 10 more per team on the sidelines, and whatever crowd needs to be present. Unique jerseys/helmets would help a person customize their team. No big MMOG landscapes, just the arena. creating a variety of players would be the hardest, I think.
2. players: Quarterbacks, recievers, lineman, linebackers, any other unusual elements that can be thrown in(healers/mechanics/referees). During the game most of the players would be AI, while the person would be able to take control of any player, preferably the one in the middle of the action.
3. team manager abilities, to create/recruit rookies/freesgents, create starting setup positions on the field, organize the team and to trade with other teams online.
4. Ability to create a league management server, for organizing games and managing trades/statistics. I think this is the main reason Think Tanks as a league style game is faltering, because while everyone wants to play, no-one wants to put that much effort into organizing. The easier this is the longer the league lasts.
5. Experience/upgrades to the players. as the players play, they get better. easier aiming, faster running, more durable, harder hitting, etc. Helps to create star players which might get traded.
Bloodbowl was great for the variety of teams available even beside player types, the chance that someone got knocked out permanently from the game (killed), the experience gained in a game, managing the players, many different aspects.
I've referred this all back to bloodbowl, but a robot based version would be just as good, so long as the variety is there.
This is itching to be an online two+ player game (maybe all of the players coule be replaced with people, although that might not turn out to well), but a single player game could have the same depth, just against Ai opponents. AI managers could help fill out a league starting off.

I have been thinking about Blood Bowl too. Its a good concept. The hardest part would definatly be the AI. There was a Blood Bowl game for pc back in 95 or so. Turned based. But the AI was not very good. But league and tournament play worked fine. All tough it was not very fun when you ended up winning 16 games for every loss.

I think a big thing would be how the turn based system is applied; keep it tun based or go with AI for most/all of the players? have programable routes(with defaults) for each teammate, and have directions change on the fly with the function keys? being able to direct every player in the turn based version gave great control, but it was really slow. maybe more of a myth based overhead control system.

I remember that pc game, I liked it quite a bit. I don't think they put much into that AI (although it was way back when there wasn't much processing power available). I think good AI would be doable today.I think a big thing would be how the turn based system is applied; keep it tun based or go with AI for most/all of the players? have programable routes(with defaults) for each teammate, and have directions change on the fly with the function keys? being able to direct every player in the turn based version gave great control, but it was really slow. maybe more of a myth based overhead control system.

Sorta like "Cyberball", but the players are human and have suits that augment thier skills. This would also add a unique dimension to the game is that you could take a strong player and give them minimal augmentation, or a somewhat weaker player and "pump them up" via the suit. Yes there would be accounting for innate ability.
