material / texture question

by Chris Sargent · in Torque 3D Professional · 11/05/2010 (3:58 pm) · 7 replies

I have a model I purchased. It came with DTS and DAE files as well as separate folders for the textures. I can get the models in my level fine, but they have no textures. I figured I would try the material editor to apply the textures. However when I click on edit for normal, difues, etc... nothing happens.

So my question would be how can I get the textures applied to the model?

Thanks!

have you tried putting the textures in the same folder as the DTS/DAE?
I have had to do that with some models

I put all the textures in the same folder. I still get the no material on all of the models.

look at the name of the materials on the model (in the drop down box of material editor) do the names there match your texture file names?

The dropdown box has nothing in it which is probably my problem. I don't know how to get them in there. I tried a prebuilt level with one of the models and it works fine. If I copy the modle folder from the prebuilt mission to my game folder and load the models I get the same thing.

whats in the drop down is i think coming directly from the model file, you know you can open the dae in notepad and look in there for the texture name. i even got away with editing some in notepad but this might not always work

well i opened it and it is a big file and a big mess lol
However, once I locate texture names what do I do with them? I'm quite new to the 3d model thing and this is the first time I've had a model that came into the engine without textures

I got the problem solved. I reloaded T3d and put the models back in and worked like a charm.

Thanks for the help!
