Is TGEA still available?

by Nathan · in General Discussion · 10/10/2010 (6:36 pm) · 7 replies

I purchased TGE 1.4 a few years ago, but after a while developed other hobbies and stopped using it. I would now like to get back in the game (bad pun intended!), but am wondering if it's possible to get the next version of the engine (TGEA)? I don't see it for sale anywhere..

Thanks!

Nope - T3D is the new TGEA.

So the days of paying $100 for an engine with source code are gone?

That stinks! I can't pay $1000 for the version of T3D that comes with source code.

Oh well.. Unity, here I come!

Reminder: You do not get source code with Unity.

But it's free and, from what I've heard, has a more flexible scripting language than torque script. Unity also has other features built-in, like a full implementation of PhysX, that would probably require modifying the torque source code.

I really don't get why GG raised the price of the version with the source code to $1000. I don't think that decision is making them more money, because people like me get turned off. It's also kind of a stab in the back to indies and hobbyists like me, who can't afford paying $1000.

Just my $0.02 cents.

If it fits your needs, go for it.

Lots of people feel exactly the same, though the discussion has pretty much ended by now, with people either adopting T3D or moving on.

But since we're opening this particular can of worms again...

...open-source TGE?

@Nathan - Was just replying to your string of logic. You liked TGE with source, had interest in TGEA with source, but posted that you would go to Unity (which has no source). That was my point. T3D has an implementation of PhysX and Bullet.

@Daniel - Been a while since someone mentioned open source TGE. I think I'll bring it up in our next meeting.

@Nathan,

Since you purchased TGE a few ago, why don't your use it until you can afford T3D. LIke anything, save $50.00 a month, and within a year or two, you will have the $1000.00 it will cost you.

Or even, if you're good enough, you might be able to develop a game that people would buy with TGE.

Yoiur licence to these games never expires!
