Torque 3D Beta 2 and HDMI 1080p issue.

by Jerry Casian · in Torque 3D Professional · 09/07/2010 (1:49 am) · 13 replies

Is 1080p not supported in Torque 3D? because every time I crank my resolution to 1920 x 1080, I get a black terrain and missing elements. It doesn't do that at default setting but once I change the resolution back down to default it doesn't fix the problem until I generate a new project.

All of my test machines run at 1920x1080, I don't test at anything else really...

edit: also 2 of my test rigs run dual hdmi 42in 1080, others run 1080 over vga

Check your video drivers and DxSDK to make sure that they're the latest.

DxSDK and Drivers are fine. The only thing I did was upgrade my OS to Windows 7 from Vista. Whats strange is that the Physx demo level goes 1080p and it looks fine, but it seems that on the other examples it happens on every resolution thats not the default. Its only working on the default res.

What version are your video drivers under W7? What does DXDiag say? It definitely sounds like a driver issue. I can't replicate it on my machines, but I do know that several people have had similar "black terrain" and "missing elements" issues with corrupt or out of date drivers or DX versions. Make sure you are installing your drivers from the manufacturer site and not the compatibility mode drivers from WindowsUpdates as well.

Ok, I re-installed my nvidia display drivers and all is good. I figured since that was the first thing I installed when I upgraded to W7 that it would not be the cause to the problem. Drivers are very delicate I guess and that's a load of my mind. Thanks guys, and keep on Torquen :p

Ok, I found the problem. It seems you could crank up everything except the lighting settings. I was testing all my settings and it turns out that just changing the lighting setting from lowest to low causes the missing elements and black terrain. If I have it on low and then crank everything else it looks fine. So what is wrong with the lighting here? :/

What's your graphics card?

Also, there might be a fix for this in the 1.1beta2 forums if you do a search (or just use the mark1 eyeball for "black terrain").

I'm using Win7, but ditched Vista fully rather than upgraded.

2x GeForce 9600 GT GDDR3 1gig x 2. I will search for that thanks.

I also did a full install of Windows 7, I never liked upgrades on OS.

That's a bit baffling then ...

Last thought, make sure AA is disabled in options.

Ok, so I am able to crank the lighting to high and still have x1 AA, more than x1 does not work. So AA is conflicting with lighting that sucks ;/

@Jay - There are some bugs in how AA is applied in beta 2. Beta 3 should fix those issues for you.
