Capture the Flag Test

by Tank Dork · in ThinkTanks · 08/01/2003 (12:04 am) · 11 replies

We just finished playing a couple of rounds of Capture the Flag.. I must say that it is every bit as fun as we imagined..
Everyone was yelling "again, again" when the timer started after each round.

The highlight of the evening was when the green team lead by FoulPlay sporting a heavy tank holed his team up in their skeleton base and defended the scrum against nearly 5 minutes worth of constant attack. Blue finally managed to break through with the help of a heavy tank driven by myself with azazel scooping up the scrum and running it back to our ruins... sadly we were unable to keep the scrum in our base nearly as long as green (who had 2 heavies to our 1 for most of the match) and had to admit defeat.

Thanks to Azazel for running the server and to all who participated.. wish I had of written down your names..

BraveTree KingOftheHill has been tested with high success. With the shockwave campain i've noticed a flow of new buyers that seem very interested in battlemode and holding a territory like on Galia Gully under the volcano.
What they are playing is a premature version of Capture the Flag. Nobody told them to do this they just did it there server is on all the time. Holding a base with the scrum combines the two current formats of scrum and battlemode. This ccombination could take this game to the next level we would love to see it in a future upgrade, it holds alot of promise. I forsee many many CTF league games, it makes you feel more like a team than scrum or battlemode. Maybe a test server in the near future could happen??
AZ pinning is fun
P.S. dont drive your heavy through the southeast stonebase you get stuck its 2 narrow, you die.

I was there, great time. Great idea. Although the bases should be bigger than just the ruins or tree hill, I think you guys are going places.
PS: How can I join to help the tests! :)

Boy, i ran up against them in the skeleton base at least 5 times! That was great, one of the best TT games i have ever had! I really hope to see CTF soon. One thing to suggest, if there are static goals, I think they should be very faint and pretty big. The "goal" should cover the whole base, not just a little piece. In regular scrum, you are mostly going through the goal, so it can be small. Keeping it inside a scrum-sized goal would be impossible. For the same reason, the goal should not be bright, like in scrum. The goal should be either faint or invisible, defined by landmarks. If you are trying to stay inside the goal, you still want a clear view out, and vice versa. Really hope to see CTF soon! :-]

Go TT and CTF!

I was thinking just a really really short static goal.

Yeah FP I was thinking the same.. maybe double the size of the current goals and about track heigth. The "flag holder" shouldn't be able to run around much and should be dependant on other members to guard them.. if they have to run to protect the "flag" they risk not gaining time for a bit.

"Charge!"

What about a colored ring on the ground? Or colored landmarks.
Or, a big sign in the sky

Pillar of heavenly light shining on the base.
