Make Aiming easier.... WHAA!!

by Tank Dork · in ThinkTanks · 07/26/2003 (11:58 am) · 12 replies

In the 1.1 update post the comment "Make Aiming easier" was listed.

Is this a problem?!?! When I first started playing (the minute it released on Windows platform) I had a minor challenge with learning to aim.. minor problem.

The way aiming is handled in Think Tanks is revolutionary, it is not simple.. but not complex.

I am not the only one who has become good at fire control in TT.. We learned to use it.. they will too!

Hope I am blowing this out of proportion..

The more I think of this the more i get chills down my spine. MAKING AIMING EASIER, i jusy

imagine a bunch of newbies tapping me in the ass repeadedly there first time playing. With the

regulars we already last like 10 seconds with the scrum with aiming easy we will all be

instantly dead if you are talking about some variation maybe just changing the ratio of the

mouse speed than im down for it but any major tweaks to the aiming scares me. I love the

aiming confiuration on this game because it requires alot of skill and feels very realistic.

Well, what I did was sped up all the projectiles and flattened the trajectory a bit. This will help new players who contstantly aim over people heads by targeting with the first floating ring and not the red pip.

It is most notable on the Heavy. Note that the servers have already been updated, so if you are playing online, you are playing with the new settings. Try it out by playing in quick play, and then going online and playing on the servers. You may notice the difference.

I tried really, really hard to not break the origial settings too much, as the difficulty is part of the reason why the game is fun and why it feels good to take people out.

No wonder I have been shooting into the ground so much... and our scrum game turned into a kill fest of unusual proportions.

The damage is done.. we will live with it..

I can live with those changes less arc seems like a good thing.
Just checked it out, FoulPlay Likes less arc I thought I was killing tanky more than normal.

I hope they don't make any BIG changes to the aiming process. it is just fine i don't think there is any thing wrong with it. well............ maybe you could make less arc like fp said but other than that the aimer is fine

The new aiming is not too bad. I didn't noticed it.

The only thing that took some getting used to is the arrow keys. Being righthanded, I don't like using the arrow keys with my left hand. But I got used to it, and the aiming is just fine.

Nathan - you can use the arrow keys, the num pad arrow keys, or wasd for movement. Just FYI...

@Nathan.. I use wasd with my left and mouse with my right..
Of course I have player FPS for many many years and it has become quite a habit.. Just keep your index finger on the "d", your ring finger on the "a" and your FoulPlay finger on the "w" also using it to hit the "s" when you need some reverse magic.

Or do as Tally Ho does.. I think he uses his arrow keys.. and look at the magic he works...

The heavy bots seem particularly deadly lately. In a scrum game where I am running away from one, even dodging doesn't seem to minimize the hits.

It was more fun to me when Aiming was harder.

I agree SlideWRX... however, I believe the bots might have been suped up a bit with the last upgrade. That and the combination of the modifications to the heavy make for meaner bots.
I do not believe the aiming changed effected them any.. they were pretty good aimers before.

It also seems to take more hits to kill a medium now..
either
(1) Light tank ammo was tweeked down
(2) Medium tanks were toughened
(3) I am loosing my mind.. a distinct possibility.

Anyone else notice that the Heavy is more jittery? As in it twitches back and forth more than it used to? I noticed this on Heavy Testing too. Perhaps the idle rocking code was inadvertantly mucked up?

The heavy should be as smooth as a Cadillac...
