Hmm individual licence ok that means its individual
Studio licence hmm what is a studio well? very poor choice in words for a licence very sad if you ask me.
This could mean anything than I looked into the Tab called Licences on torque 2D and noticed no one even put the effort in to write one its just a copy and paste of the licences for torque 3D it says with a studio licence I get per seat? so what I have searched high and low for pricing per seat from whats indicated in the Eula it could be a complete scam everything on this site seems disorganized and spread out and hidden the search function i can just declare Broken I type something into it and it gives me information about something I didn't need.
I am confused on a they product, Torque I see 0 effort to provide any proper actully helpful information on the site.
I'm not trying to fight anyone or cause a problem I just need some information and I sat on the livechat?? for about 4 hours when it said it was online till you guys just went offline.
and Torque X wth is this I can't event find a shread of information about Torque X i see everyone talks about it but its not on the site and it doesn't appear to be for sale.

Thank you for the reply and under engines on the site I can only see torque 2D i don't see this torque X 2D i actully have a hard time finding the proper information on the site either that or its just not there when I got to torque 2D it says there is a individual licence and there is a studio licence i have 5 people that want to be making maps what you just said means i need to buy 5 copys of the software at 300$ each. that makes no sence, It says I get a source code? and it actully has no listed benefits from what I see the site for Torque is very poor in providing any information or a incentive to actully choise the studio licence over the individual licence first glance you think.Hmm individual licence ok that means its individual

Here is a quote from Eric (Torque employee)
Studio Licensing – For a long time we have not given the public visibility into the pricing for studio licenses. Studio licenses are seat licenses rather than licenses that are tied to a given individual and in the past we only offered them via direct sales. If you own a studio license, you will notice that you have a new tab in your account named “My Studio”.
Under this tab you can reassign studio licenses to any other individual who has an account on the site. When you assign a license, your studio name will display under their avatar. This is the first of many ideas we’ve discussed to help your studio build its own brand. Expect to see more and more studio services and functionality over the next couple of years. An upgrade from an individual license to a studio licenses is being offered for a promotional price of $25 per upgrade.
/End quote
With Torque 2D, you can buy a studio license for $125 (per seat) without source code. That is what I use; since the scripting is more than enough to make games. Or you can buy the Studio pro for $300 (per seat). The Pro has the source code to the engine. The only reason to have the source code is if you want to include 3rd party libs or want to add to the engine (I can't see that happening) or for complicated AI which runs faster in C++. Of course there are members that will dispute that claim and say the source code is good for other things.
Torque X is listed under consoles
2D version http://www.torquepowered.com/products/torquex-2d
3D version http://www.torquepowered.com/products/torquex-3d
Again about the licenses, everything changed yesterday and now there is only 1 EULA.
The Torque 2D forums is actually called Torque Game Builder(http://www.torquepowered.com/community/forums/28) Naming hasn't been the strong point in the past. TGB (torque game builder) was renamed Torque 2D--or at least on the products page it was--in wake of the new version of the 2D engine called Torque 2D; which is in development

So if there are six people, you + 5 others, six licenses need to be purchased in some way.
07/16/2010 (2:54 pm)
@Joshua - Each person will need a license to work on a game with you. Now, either they can buy their own individual license or you can purchase them for the team with a studio license upgrade and assign them out.So if there are six people, you + 5 others, six licenses need to be purchased in some way.

For clarification Michael, I was under the impression that only people who are going to use the engine need a license. For an example lets say I'm the only person working with the engine but I have an artist working with me who is creating the game art in photoshop. In that case would the artist need a license? To the best of my reading ability I thought he wouldn't.

Ok thank you I understand is there some form of level editor included in the source that i can make my own level editor to provided people thats the only really important part.

There is a level editor (basically is the engine) included; I haven't seen the source but I doubt it's in there.

5 man team:
1 C++ coder
1 Scripter
1 Level Designer
2 Artists
Assuming the artists just use art apps and then pass their art to the level designer to put into the game they don't need licenses. The Scripter and Level Designer need the regular version(non-pro) while your C++ coder would probably want the full pro version. The C++ coder can pass new executables to the Scripter and Designer as necessary.
Studio vs Individual - Studio allows you to assign and unassign licenses to people. As Brenton mentioned there might only be a couple of areas that you need C++ access for. In that case you could purchase a studio license to the Pro version and assign it to contractors as necessary for your project. This system works well for projects that may have a lot of contractors or turnover, especially in the case where people coming onto the project don't already use Torque 2D.
Individual on the other hand is tied to a single account and can't be transfered. So if you purchase a license for your level designer but halfway through the project he has to leave, he takes that license with him. Whereas the studio would allow you to unassign it and then assign it to the new level designer. This system works well for people who already own licenses coming together for a project.
One more note: You can buy a studio license and not assign it to yourself. So if you were just the manager/producer and you weren't actually doing any production (i.e. not opening up the editor)you wouldn't need a license. So if you were the 6th man on that team I mentioned above you very possibly would still only need 5 licenses under the studio setup.

@Brenton - You are correct, only those that need access to the engine or editors needs a license. Example:5 man team:
1 C++ coder
1 Scripter

Well, if you have (a) guy who just edits levels, you may be able to get him a license if you have an XNA premium membership for free, or maybe I have it confused with something else.

I think Derek's post was the best explanation I've seen in regards to multiple member teams and licensing -- sticky that thing!!

You have been into the studio tab (Your studio name is set up), on that page is a button titled add new user. A pop up pops up when you click on that button and from that pop up you type in 1 email address twice. Now under the active users and under the correct email address you click on the check box next to the license you want to give that person. That user can now log on and download the license you assigned them.

You don't downgrade your license to individual; then they can't use it. Get them to make an account on the website, and assign the license to them via the My Studio tab.You have been into the studio tab (Your studio name is set up), on that page is a button titled add new user. I have only 1 licence
I can only use 1 licence for one person?<---- question mark
so my question is
how do I buy a new """"NEW""" a new licence to add to my studio because I want to have more than 1 person. do you guys understand
I wish I could really just speak to someone on the phone oblivously no one can understand the way I type.
I want to buy a new licence and in the process of trying to buy a new licence somehow it made me buy a 25$ upgrade and still there is no option on the site to buy a new licence because i already own one. do you understand my fustration and most of the time we get some sort of guide that says click here and you need to click here and here and here because Torque does not offer any language besides english.

It says on your account you have a Torque 2D Individual license and a Torque Pro studio license.
can only use 1 licence for one person?
Yes that is correct, 1 licence per seat/person.
how do I buy a new """"NEW""" a new licence to add to my studio because I want to have more than 1 person. do you guys understand
I think you can't buy another license if you have an individual licence. Upgrade your individual one to studio and you can buy more licences.

I wanted to buy a
individual licence
and
Studio licence
individual licence costs 250$
Studio licence costs 125$
First I buy the individual licence than when I go to buy the studio licence
it asks for 25$ so I click it pay it no problem I'm willing to pay it its like a tax?
Than I go back again to buy the studio licence and guess what?
It asks for another 25$
So?
I had to pay 50$ for what reason?
I want a individual licence and a studio licence now I'm not retarded this should cost (375USD)
So why am I paying (425USD) from what you guys originaly told me I could buy whatever licences I wanted I didn't need to be forced to buy something I didn't need.
This time do you understand?

There have been reports of an error in the shop selling licenses for 25$.
Also, if you want to assign the license to someone, you need them to be registered on the site. So have them register, then assign the license THEN see if you can buy another.
But mostly, wait a few days, to make sure the bugs are ironed out. If at the end of this you are out a few 25$, call their support to get reimbursed.
Good luck.

Sorry I'm confused you said you wanted 1 studio license; then how come you said you went to buy a studio license twice?
The problem is you bought the individual first. Instead of buying the studio license you upgraded the individual one to studio. The button would have said upgrade.

To purchase a license for your designer go to www.torquepowered.com/products/torque-2d and click the Buy Now button. A dialog will pop up with 4 options. You want the 3 option "Studio". This will get you a non source code license that you can assign your level designer.
Also, the system allows you to "assign" a license to a person that doesn't yet have an account. They will receive an email to register but as soon as they do it should assign them the license. So the person still needs an account but you can assign it to them before they have created it.

@Joshua - No problem. You currently own a studio license to Torque 2D Pro, which includes the source code. You are correct, this can only be assigned to one person on your team. Oh, thats great! So the old torque2D builder license is still tied to the TorqueX Builder license, this is good to know. I just upgraded my Torque 2D License.. In theory, this should get me a level editor guy license, for TorqueX builder right?
