There's a iT2D that cost 25$ rather than 900$ but ther's wrote upgrade now and not buy it now.
It's the studio versio...what is it?

Andrea,

I've just been browsing the new website also. It seems as though GG have added a new version, which is an upgrade to what we had before. So it's not a cheaper version, it's actually an upgrade. At least this is my interpretation, after browsing the new pages.

The new upgrade seems to affect only the licensing aspects, so it's essentially the same as what we had before except for some extra flexibility in terms of what the licensing agreement allows. For example, we are now permitted to gross more than $250,000 per year without penalty. How many people will that affect?, probably none. Definitely not me.

The only advantage I can see (for me personally) is that, with the studio upgrade, we can waive the iTGB splash screen. Personally I think that is probably worth the upgrade, as I think having the iTGB screen might reduce sales. So I think I will probably upgrade actually, just based on that point.

The thing that disappoints me most is that the current paying members did not learn about this first, as a heads up through a news letter or something similar, prior to release to the public. Perhaps some people were, but I certainly wasn't. In my opinion, I think that sucks big time.

Anyway, there's my 2 cents...

Mark

Mark, I've upgraded to the Studio licence but it seems we don't get an automatic waiver to the splash:

"Logo Screen. You shall display the Torque Logo, consistent with the Logo Guidelines, in the start-up sequence of the Product. For an additional fee, InstantAction may waive this requirement for holders of Studio Licenses in an addendum to this EULA."

The person who runs this site, should let people know that $25 does not give a person full access to the iTGB software. It looks like a few people already signed up for the $25 thinking they get the full package.

@Scott
I understood that if you have a studio license + (a additional price decided by instantaction) you can remove splash logo...

The waiver for logo was removed long ago. None of the torque licenses, independent how large, allows you to cut it anymore.

changed around the release of Torque 3D last year for all engines.

@All - Eric covers the information about the Studio License in his blog: Website Update.

Here's the quick summary: essentially, a studio license grants you the ability to reassign seats:

Quote:studio licenses are seat licenses rather than licenses that are tied to a given individual and in the past we only offered them via direct sales.
.

So, let's say you are planning on having a team for making iTorque 2D games. If you want everyone to front the cost, then you can go the traditional route of each person purchasing a license. Alternatively, you can purchase multiple licenses yourself and assign them to team members.

This is going to be extremely useful for people who are contracting out work or building a team. An example:

Bob is an iTorque 2D license owner. In fact, he purchased two licenses ahead of time for when he wants to work with another programmer or give access to an artist. A few months later he finds someone to work with. Because he has a studio license (early promo prices is just $25), he can add that person to his team and give them a license. Later, if the person leaves the team Bob can remove the license from their account. He finds someone else, can can now reassign that extra license again.

Go ahead and read through the blog for more details, leave your comments and questions there so Eric can address them all.

Michael, thanks for the clarification.

Scott, yeah I made a mistake there. Apparently, the Torque Splash Screen is waivable for the Torque 3D Studio license. I must have read that and assumed that all of the other engines had the same agreement.

Actually, $25 is a pretty good deal for a floating license. No use for me right now, but it might be if I decide to collaborate with others in the future.
