by FoulPlay · in ThinkTanks · 07/18/2003 (3:45 pm) · 32 replies
Just thinking 3 or 4 team battlemode or scrum would be cool. STILL WANTING CAPTURE THE FLAG PLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEASE just add a another goal a blue one and another flag!!! maybe 2 forts or castles???? and a bigger map! your ideas welcome
THE ONE THE ONLY
FoulPlay 8======)
2 strucures on a capture the flag server on bigger maps would take this game to a new level And increase sales dramatically.
Something more for me 2 dominate ;)
-Any map design ideas??
-developers CAPTURE THE FLAG!!!!
P. S. bigger map would also allow more tanks without overcrowding

FP, if you want to see those kinds of changes you will need to start talking all those demos you've been killing into buying the game... :)-- 56k Lag Man (who may also need a timer)

Everyone would go to the hill to fight off, and then mb every minute or so it could change location.

Seing the evil FP and TD playing 'Kill the Rats, This Is Our Hill" I came to think I'd love to see a 'King Of The Hill' version of TT. The longer you stay in the ring, the better! Team KOTH would be fun too. Everyone would go to the hill to fight off, and then mb every minute or so it could change location.

One of the things that's great about TT is all the different play style variations that would be interesting.
I for one would like to see a "hold the flag" game with a timer. You are scored on how long you can keep the flag. Camping doesn't pay, it's all running. I've played this with Mars and Supercobra and it's a lot of fun, but you have to keep track of your own time... :(

Paco and I played a 'king of the hill' sumo game after jumping to the small island. It didn't work real well. There wasn't enough room to maneuver and get speed up to knock Paco off the island. Have a pass button.
When the carrier drops the ball, it bounces in front of the tank. Bouncing behind would be used more often to prevent a steal than to make a pass.
This would make for some good team play around a crowded goal. The defenders tend to follow the ball carrier while a few hang out in the goal area.
The only way to pass is with a head-on collision. This makes the receiver go in the same direction of the original carrier. Ability to pass would enable a redirection play where the carrier can get followers only to pass to a full speed team mate in the opposite direction.
stalemate

Can't beat the simplicity of scrum. The team scrum is fabulous as it is, one simple enhancement request.Have a pass button.

"Have a pass button."
How about if you have the scrum instead of bullets you
can "shoot" the scrum? That way you could aim your pass?

This topic was discussed earlier, though i don't remember what the conclusion was (if any). ill try and find the thread...

That would change the game dramatically from currently a 'rugby' type game to more fo a non-contact basketball type game.

This isn't Rugby though - it's Scrum! :D

In rugby (either form) it's often a good idea to pass the ball before you get taken down, so IMO it would make the game more like rugby, not basketball. This isn't Rugby though - it's Scrum! :D

Don't get me wrong, Im all in favour of some kind of 'passing' method. If you are almost dead, its almost plain suicidal to type and type a message to notify a team mate you want to palm off the scrum. You just have to hope that they can recognise the fact and can see the heavy smoke eminating from your rear.

'Passing' Rugby is normally consists of lots of short range passes. 'Firing the scrum' which was what I was refering to would mean it would be passed over longer distances and there would likely be fewer rucks and scrummages, making it more like basketball.Don't get me wrong, Im all in favour of some kind of 'passing' method. Perhaps if the scrum could only be lobbed a short distance - even shorter than bouncebacks..?

Ah yes, I was fixated on the scenario of having a nearby teammate to pass to when you were damaged, and forgetting the potential to lob the scrum long distances!Perhaps if the scrum could only be lobbed a short distance - even shorter than bouncebacks..?

Or how about just dropped?

P.S. anyone else play bloodbowl? Scrum with passing seems like the same thing! GREAT FUN!!!

I would love a passing ability too! make it tank based, like the lights can shoot it like bounce shot, mediums like regular shot, and heavies like speedy shot. heavies would have a place when they can shoot the ball half way across the map, and the others can't. I think a light with big passing ability wold be hard to defend. so make it short range. might introduce a 'quarterback' player.Tom

I did not like the long pass idea until you brought up the twist of different pass ranges based on tank size. Using a medium or heavy tank during scrum is always a liability but this would make for some interesting team comp.
Still think the light tank should only be able to drop to the front. Stealing is cool because it's pretty tricky, the carrier has an advantage. Long passing by lights would eliminate this element.

It'd still be chaos out there, just a different kind of chaos...

If you were about to be rammed, you could pass it to the rammer, and then ram them, thereby getting the scrum back. It'd still be chaos out there, just a different kind of chaos...

Keep the suggestions coming. We want to be very careful, as scrum is fun, and changing it make make it worse. Passing sounds like it might change the game dynamic quite a bit. How about dropping it? or just letting it go? you could pass then by leting go while hitting a jump, or a boost pad (the upward boosts).

Sorry, this is off topic, but in the second post here TH mentions blue levels. Are those like the green, red, and yellow circles next to the servers in the online display? I am confused. %-\*
Tally Ho
for me, ctf is just about killer app. if it can be implemented, i may need to set a timer so i remember to rotate myself and not get chair sores on me backside.
